Does anyone know if there’s a good resource for maps of the W.W.II period online?
It seems a bit silly at first to want W.W.II era ones, until you realise things like name changes (see Melvis’ mystery bit of France /Belgium in the Heinkel / Luger thread) names under occupation, and the fact that Holland was quite a different shape then!
I’m personally after maps of western Europe, and in lage and small scales, but any hints for general use would be appreciated – resources for maps of W.W.II airfields, strategy maps etc. Post away!
Cheers

Brilliant website
It is not quite the answer you are looking for but this website is exceptionally helpful in deciphering wartime map references eg from ORBs and it is helpful in confirming locations where placenames and spellings have changed.

UK airfields of WWII
‘t would be interesting to have a map of the UK from 1945, showing all of the airfields, and then to compare that with current maps.

Whilst not exactly a viewable resource, there’s usually pre-war “touring” maps (Michelin etc.) on Ebay – search under “Map France”. IIRC they are pretty cheap too. Not as useful as an online reference admittedly.
This may be of use too.

There have been loads of books published that have been atlases of WWII over the years. Check your library.
