Waddington Air Show 05-06-08 and a few arrivals 04-05-08

Hi

I was quite impressed for the first few hours of the flying display during the rainy period. Obviously the items most capable of coping with the bad conditions were put up first with the weather putting the flying schedule up the chute. However, when the sun came out just after 1pm, nothing happened for half an hour.

I was to just out of earshot of the speakers so unaware of much what the problems were but at a guess, it would been down to aircraft positioning and the overhang from the bad weather including some canceled items such as the Hawk and B52.

Nevertheless, though it resulted in a show that was a bit gappy, I felt that the organisers did the best that could be done under the circumstances.

Although there was still plenty space at the front of the crowd line when I arrived, I chose to stay about 20 to 30 feet behind the front and used my step ladder for the take offs.

My highlight was the loose but impressive formation of the Lancaster and Vulcan

I was my first time at the Friday arrivals day and it will not be my last.

Very nice, Martin. I do hope that the Lanc crew got some air-to-airs of the Vulcan?!

Cheers

Fantastic stuff 🙂

The Vulcan makes the Lanc look a tad small!

What gives with the almost-but-not-quite WW2 camouflage on the Hawk – or have I missed something?

Pre 1939 Fighter Cammouflage as painted on the Spitfires issued to 19 Sqn in 1938, Worn on a 19(R) Sqn Hawk to mark the 70th Anniversary of the entry of the Spitfire into RAF Service, with of course 19 Sqn being the first Sqn to get the type.

Great pictures, and I wish I’d been there. Can’t be in two places at once, though.
