Waffle about remaking The dambusters

With all this waffle as to whether or not they should remake the Dambusters, has anyone thought of all the good material that hasnt been covered and would make a fabulous movie?

How about posting a copy of “Bomber”, by Len Deighton, to Peter Jackson?

Roald Dahls “going solo” (the only one of his books that isnt a movie yet)

“The Machine gunners” by Robert Westall (cant remeber what the sequal was called, but it was even better)

“When Hitler stole pink rabbit” by Judith Kerr http://www.amazon.com/When-Hitler-Stole-Pink-Rabbit/dp/0698115899

If Peters version of ‘The Dam Busters’ does justice to the subject matter I will not complain to loudly, but please god not another ‘Pearl Harbour’!

Moving away from yet another WW2 film…

What about a movie about some of the exploits of Sir Alan Cobham?

Best wishes

Re:

When I say accurate I mean not having to worry about facts of actual misssions, not “accurate” as in P51s posing as 109s, (Charlies angels) Spys walking into German bars talking of the plans to blow up the German HQ, in English (where eagles dare) in fact I might start a topic on that…

One to make aircraft fans the world over wince, squirm and generally choke on their popcorn.

Just about all of Peters Films have come from Books he has read.

there are plently of directors who are/were like this though, Stanley Kubrick for example.

“The Machine gunners” by Robert Westall (cant remeber what the sequal was called, but it was even better)

Fathom Five.

Machine Gunners was a serial.

I second Deighton’s ‘Bomber’. Dambusters was one raid.

Not to be rude, but.

Has anyone thought that the reason Peter is making the movie is simply because he wants to.

Along with King Kong, Dambusters is a film Peter vividly remembers as a young boy and stuck with him. Now he has the money, resources and time he makes the movies he wants to make.

More power to him, and who cares if its not as good as the original (personally I think it will be a heck of a lot better), its his movie and he can do it how he likes.

I for one will go to see it as it will undoubtedly be a good yarn.

There are so many great stories out there, but whether they would transfer well to movies is another matter….

Personal favourites of mine include
‘Fly for your life’ (about Bob Stanford Tuck),
‘Night Fighter’ (written by Jimmy Rawnsley about himself and John Cunningham)
‘Lancaster target’ (Jack Currie)

The story of Operation Jericho is another great one of course, although I suppose ‘Mosquito Squadron’ was loosely based on the mission.I think it has been noted here before that the acting was more wooden than the Mossies! 😀

three very very good books and would make excellant material for a film..

What about the story of the late Bill Reid VC?
