I just got a longer range zoom for my camera, so I’ll be hanging about the end of runway 23 at GLA trying to get a shot of Wysiwyg’s left nostril when he brings in his 757.
You have been warned (lol)

Keep me posted and I’ll try and get a nice sequence of shots of your 757 on arrival.

Ren – I’m not doing the second GLA tour now (a Glaswegian LGW based FO wants to do it for me) and another guy might do the first one!

Got my digital camera a short while ago. Gotta love a digital camera with a 10x Optical Zoom lens 😀
I agree, digital zoom is pretty much worthless.

I’ve been using my 200 mm lens until now which although very good, you still need to get reasonably close to the planes for nice close up shots. The 300 mm should improve my stuff a good bit, especially the in flight stuff I love to capture when I can.

what about the Nikon coolpix 5700, 8x zoom extends to the equivalent of 280mm, costs around 800 quid just now. I’ve had mine about a year now still very impressed with it. don’t have any of my shots on hand just now or would post one.

I’m after a Canon D60 when I can afford it. Have just bought an EOS 300 with 300mm and 100mm zooms.

go DIGITAL!
everyone is to be honest plus its making me a small fortune in commission! lol
T5, check out the Fuji 603. you’re going to get a 6million effective pixel output (which as a photography student i’d imagine you’d know is pretty fantastic), i believe a bigger LCD screen than other cameras in its class, of which there isnt many and a movie mode feature which you could use for classic take-off and landing rolls.
obviously, the movies are going to use up a hell of alot of your XD card capacity but like we tell people at work, its all personal questions!
i’ll try and advise on here if i can, just post back and i’ll see what i can do for you!
cheers,
LGKR

Lucky bugger 😀
I don’t know what I would prefer – a brand new SLR or a digital camera. They both have advantages over each other. The main example of digital is that you do not need to fork out an arm and a leg to have the film developed and get a set of prints. Also, you see your work and can erase it if it’s a bit rubbishy.
But SLRs are also good. A 300mm zoom lens, you wouldn’t find an equivalent zoom on digital uncless you fork out in excess of £1000. I had to buy my 35-200mm second hand as parts for my camera are sadly no longer made. With a 2x convertor whacked on the end, I would have a nice big 400mm lens, just the quality wasn’t entirely perfect, but good enough. However, it died on me in New York last year. The light readings were all wrong and I couldn’t work with it, so I had to take it back. So I am without any zoom lenses at the moment. I even had to do my A Level Photography course with a 50mm lens. Every student tries to make it discreet by standing miles away from the subject and there I am, shoving the camera in some granny’s face!!

The one above your house in My Travel… you can just make out the sticker on the forward fuselage. 🙂
My new camera has got a 300mm zoom lens.

Nice photos, the second is actually a half-complete MyTravel.
Optical zoom is good. 6x zoom is even better. It’s when you get digital zoom that you really lose quality.

Kev… I have been taking shots like that in my back garden of the aircraft lining up to come into LHR.
Still on the camera waiting to be developed — I managed to get the following:
Ghana Airways
PIA with the moon
BA 747’s
BA 777’s
AC 767
God I wanna see some results from this camera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I havent seen any yet!
Great pic, more of the same anytime. 🙂

And this was taken this afternoon directly above my house.
Think it’s Monarch.

Speaking of zooms, which I know absolutely nothing about, my Fuji2800Z has a 6x optical zoom. In the shot below, the aircraft was turning over Central Walsall for runway 15 at BHX. I was being taken for a walk by the dog in a park over three miles away. Not the best but I’m still impressed with the result.

They’re great cameras, I’ve no real problems with them, especially not the way they are made. Tough quality metal which is brilliant compared to the occasionally tacky, plastic cameras you see nowadays.

Hey dont dis SLR’s!!!! :p

I’ve given up with my SLR – a rapidly ageing OM-10. It’s not a fan of motion shots and just captures blur. It’s incredibly annoying. I’m after a digital camera at the moment, too. I did have one on lease and desperately want one of my own.

I’m off to Paisley now for a haircut and then to GLA to test things out. I may post a few pics on here later if they turn out alright.

I have the individual flight numbers here but I’ll save posting them until just before in case of roster changes.
