I Was fortunate enough to be part of one of the most pleasent Air Displays I’ve been to in many years yesterday. Walney Island in Barrow in Furness. Sorry I haven’t got any pictures.
It was only after we arrived in the Spitfire we discovered we were the first Spitfire to land at Walney since 1945.
It was the kind of air display where all the egoes and heros had been left at home.
The participants list was quite impresive to say it was the first display they’ve put on.
Grace Spitfire – ML407.
Welsh Two seat Spitfire.
PL965.
Hurricane Mk XII
Magister.
Maurice Hamond & Rob Davis – In Janie and the Doll.
John Taylor in his Extra.
Beech 18
Barry Tempest in the Skybolt
Catalina
BBMF
Hunter
Hawk
Falcons
Richard Grace in his Cassut Racer and Dave Puleston in his Pitts were in the static park
It was the kind of Airshow that has almost become extinct, ie, close and friendly with a stunning back drop of the bay and hills in the distance.
I know this may not be your cup of tea, but I’m sick of reading how world beating Flying Fagends is, well, If they have a display at Walney next year and I get the oppertunity to go, I will go without a doubt.
I have a strange feeling there was a chap from “Flypast” there as well.

There have been a few references to the numpty level at airshows and I have to say that I have found it to be highest in the commentary booth at a lot of airshows. Why do so many commentators come out with stuff that is obviously wrong to anyone who has ever bothered to study a little bit of the info they have available?
Don’t go there, a very good mate of mine and a few others on this forum, got banned for life for making simillar comments, even if it is true.
Old saying – the truth hurts.

Food good and afordable, people willing to help, no pratts on ladders at the fence. An all round nice place. When we left in the Spitfire at the end of the show people were still full of enthusiasm, good to see.
Level of Numpties – Low.
Number of interesting people – V High.
sounds like the old Rochester Airshow

Sort of, we have exchanged loads of e-mails over the last couple of years and i met him at Walney show and had a half decent chat. Got to ask the obvious question, why?
By: malla1962 - 24th June 2006 at 19:00
Hey nighthawk are you a friend of Alan worsley?
By: Nighthawk - 24th June 2006 at 18:50
Go for it, it would be great to see some shots, if your going to post a load then probably best to put them in photographic section. Roll on 28th July 2007, should be a great weekend up in Cumbria.

Avros response thanks to Mick.
Hi Darren, I’ve contacted Steve regarding these photo’s, he’ll have a look later and get back to me. It’s not very often he looks on here now and to be honest sometimes I don’t blame him, there’s some real drivel on here sometimes with armchair experts and book bound warriors. He’s been a bit busy over the last few months on a couple of engines as well as keeping the Spitfire flying, I think thats where he is this morning.
By the way darren, I liked the photographs you took of the Spitfire running at night, very nice, also the air to air shots of the Spitfire.BRING BACK AVRO’S FINEST. he’s a good bloke, he just speaks his mind, I didn’t think that was against the law yet.
Hi Darren,
Guess who’s back on the forum (A F returns ) even if only a guest appearance thanks to Mick. I hadn’t seen any photos from Walney so these two little gems are great to see, I remember seeing a whole bunch of people happy snapping as we ran through as well as when we landed on, so thanks for posting them here for the sensible people to look at.
It’s good to see things don’t change here, a bit of sniping here, a bit of bitching there, oh how I miss it.
It’s a shame the mods took the attitude they did, perhaps as Mick said before they don’t like a bloke who says it as it is – warts an all.
Still flypasts and all the forum users with common sense’s loss.
To those of you that know me, I’ll no doubt see you during the display season around and about so have a great summer, as to the sad gits with no intension of listening to other peoples views, I hope it rains on you each and every day.
Until next time.

Malla 1962,
That is indeed Avro’s Finest in the back. Unfortunatly he will be unable to responed as he was banned from this forum because he spoke his mind. A little oversighted, considering he is VERY involved in vintage aviation!
Another friend of his graces this forum (moocher), so I am sure one of us will let him know about your post.
