I going to have to call a halt to this sequence of posting right now, as I am off to the emerald island of Niue tomorrow morning.
I do need to spend the rest of today getting ready for that trip.
Perhaps I might continue with the jets and the classics when I get back.

The other Yak-3M ZK-YYY started life with the Egyptian Air Force as a Yak-11 trainer variant and was modified to Yak-3 standard in the UK as G-BWOE before arriving in NZ in 2005

In contrast, the Yakovlev Yak-3M ZK-VVS ex-N74FT has only been active in New Zealand for two years.

(Good to see this thread generating interest – and additional photos),
The P-40E Kittyhawk ZK-RMH has been around on the NZ airshow scene for quite a long time now.
We almost take it for granted, but it is still an impressive machine.

At the end of the day, after the official show was over, it was kept quite busy with passenger activities.

Yeah I love the Anson too !
My earlier remark wasn’t about NZ Operating the Heavies – I was just saying that the sight & sound on the Lanc or B17 is awesome from a crowd perspective……………..
Arc
and actually the acoustics of engine noise trapped in the mountains around Wanaka – well just great

For Joe Public, THE airshow drawcard is of course The Spitfire.
We have to thank Brendon Deere for his resoration effort on ZK-SPI, a Mk.IX ex-RAF, Italian Air Force, Israeli Air Force and Burma Air Force.

I am really enjoying this thread! Thanks for posting.

Yeah, I think I’m getting the hang of the olde box brownie.
By: DazDaMan - 13th May 2014 at 22:34
Fantastic stuff!

Moving forward to the 1930s, the Anson ZK-RRA is always a show-stopper.
Apparently even the pencils in the navigator’s position are the correct brand and grade.

The resultant ‘battle’ between the two groups gave us some nice formation work

By: The Blue Max - 13th May 2014 at 10:38
Now I have got mine sorted, I can add more – for your enjoyment:
The Masterton Mob bought six of their aircraft down to the event.
Repreenting the Axis side were the Hampshire Aeroplane Pfalz DIII Replica ZK-FLZ
the Replica Fokker D.VII ZK-FOD
and the Fokker Triplane Replica Scout ZK-JOG
Great pics, thanks for sharing. just to clarify that is actualy the Bianchi built, Tiger Moth based, Pfalz and not the Hampshire Aeroplane Co example.

There have actually been relatively few ‘heavies’ operated in New Zealand.
…
Australia, of course. has quite a different history.
The B-24 restoration (to taxi-able, hopefully, eventually) just outside Melbourne is well worth a visit. HARS is also working on returning their DC-4 to flight (and they have their Connie of course).

From the Allied side we have:
de Havilland DH5 ZK-JOQ

Bristol Fighter F.2B ZK-JNU

Chad Wille Sopwith Triplane Replica ZK-SOP
