I think it qualifies as historic, being 50 years old.
The monstous, growling transport is ( according to chatter on Facebook) ” now expected to arrive back at Manchester airport from Cuba, via Gander at 1845z on Tuesday and depart homeward bound to Gostomel at 1100z on Wednesday.”

Great video Ray Woodman, spoilt only by the incessant clattering of camera ‘shutters’ throughout much of it. It puzzles me why cameras are not set to ‘‘silent’ in consideration to the movie makers.

For those who are interested, it is due back into Manchester on 5th December at 18:45 and departs on the 6th at 11:05.

I live in Newton-Le Willows in the North West of England and this aircraft flew over twice on Friday. It was a beautiful clear sunny day and to hear it approaching from the distance was something else!. I looked up and wondered what it was until i did a google search for the type. It looked and sounded impressive.

There was some mild drama on Facebook about when the AN22 was going to leave Prestwick, and where it was flying to! It snuck out at 7:30 in the morning and passed near Edinburgh, though I neither saw nor heard it.
To put a historic slant on it, this video of it landing at Farnborough in 1988 is both impressive and hair-raising.

Seen them twice: deeply impressive and aside from the Tupolev Bear, the closest thing you’ll get to the sound of a B-36!

Nice to see a bit of variety at Manchester, reminded me of spotting during my youth when there was an abundance of different varities of aircraft visiting the airport. Our skies are very much dominated by Airbus and Boeing nowadays, all very sterile. Thanks for the video link.

Thanks Propstrike. Are there spotters places near the threshold where we could get a good view. I’m not a photographer but I’d love to get close to a 22 on approach. Flanker Man, you going?
