At present I’m working on a 50 minute documentary film on Bomber Command – containing interviews with veterans, some archive footage (very expensive) and footage of former Bomber Command bases (Driffield and Wickenby).
Question: Can anyone suggest a fitting title for the film? I was going to call it Bomber Boys, but that’s been done. Actually, it’s very difficult to come up with a good, original title that isn’t jingoistic or bland (like: Bomber Command). Any serious suggestions considered

‘Ordinary Men, Extraordinary Deeds’

One of my Squadron Commanders summed up the wartime crews succinctly:
“They were ordinary men who achieved quite extraordinary things”
Now if you can get a title out of that it will say it all.

Maybe not that was a book/song by Mike Harding. “They Came/Went By NIght”?

Some interesting suggestions here… I must admit I’m stumped as finding something that says what the programme is about succinctly as well as expressing the fact that these were young blokes who died in their thousands for an honourable cause, yet undoubtedly caused untold destruction and were regarded on the ground as airborne terrorists is… well, inexpressible. Something like ‘Massacre by moonlight’ jumped almost instantly to mind (and expresses both sides) but sounds awfully harsh.
Tricky one – good luck to you!

I’m sure it must have been done before, but a simple “Bombers” might sound good, referring to both the men and the machines. Or how about “Moonlight Sonata”? Sometimes sends a shiver up my spine to think of that music and picture all those planes taxiing out at some dark cold airfield for yet another raid.

Thinking along the idea of:
Bomber Boys: Reaping the Whirlwing

Something from Bomber Harris – ‘Reaping the Whirlwind’?
DS
Or a twist on the idea…
Reapers of the Whirlwind…?
You could use “The Many” as opposed to the fighter boys being the few..?
Oh sorry just noticed Newforest put a suggestion similar.
