As some of you will know from previous threads, I’m currently producing a new book on the Lightning for publication next year. I’ve received some great information, stories and anecdotes from former Lightning people, but there’s a surprising lack of photographs around – at least ones which haven’t been seen many (many!) times before.
So, here’s a plea for any photographic contributions. Emails are fine and prints can be scanned and immediately returned if snail mail is preferable. Anything used would be credited to the photographer.
I’m not looking for anything specific, just pictures which might not have been published too many times before. Having said this, I’d love to find decent copies of some of the old RAF/MoD shots from the Lightning’s heyday, as these have a certain nostalgia value and many people probably haven’t seen many of them. For example, I’m trying to find a decent copy of this one:-

Elmarie (my wife) said she is more than willing to share her photos. I will send them to you in a smaller format first so you can pic out want you want and then send those chosen in their original format. She said that she only wants recognition/credit for her photos used and if possible a signed copy of the book when finished.

Would certainly be worth a look if you/she doesn’t mind! I will be including some reference to the Thunder City Lightnings in the book of course so they would doubtless be appropriate for that bit.:)

My wife took some nice pictures of the lightnings at thunder city during their displays at AAD 2006, AAD 2008 and the airshow at Overberg AFB 2007. Will those photos help – she is willing to send them to you.

I have several b/w Lightning photos from a collection given to me by a former Canberra navigator. These were ‘raided’ from various squadron archives over the years but will say no more. As a result, I have no idea about the photographer, but can happily scan them if you are interested.
