Wanted (Please): Optica Photos

I’m submitting this thread to help try and find photos of the Edgley Optica. I am attempting to find photos of all aircraft (001-025). I’m attempting to find these photos to use on either the Aero Elvira or Optica websites. I have found photos of most of the aircraft but there are still some that elude me.

Please Help

PS: I posted this in Historic Avation because to most the Optica IS historic.

Thanks

Blue_2, that was a coincidence. Here’s a picture of the ship that was lost, albiet in happier days. I wonder if the witness you spoke with has shed any light on the accident?

Next time i’m down there I shall quiz him further and get back to you. Thanks for posting the pic 🙂

Strange coincidence this thread reappearing, I was down in Ringwood only last week talking to a bloke who saw the Hampshire Police Optica crash…

Where and what is the registration of this Optica?

G-BMPF and I cannot tell you after all this time where it was placed on the aircraft.

A British magazine had a photo story on it at the time and the airshow guide may have something but mine are in storage.

TEST PILOT VIDEO

Hi
If you watch the video called TEST PILOT a Luftwaffe pilot had to test the optica and there is some good film of the test a/c on the ground and also flying. 😀 😀

Spit, can you direct me to the video in question? There are a lot of “Test Pilot” videos on YouTube. Thank you very much. Mike

Thread drift, Sorry!!

Yes, the David Brown Tractor is the one at Brooklands Museum. We have pictures of it towing sections of Concorde around the Brooklands site in the 1970’s!!

Back to the thread, can anybody help me with the C/n of 9M-OPT which I helped look after at Farnborough 1996 , I have conflicting info!..

Thanks,
GASYD

Hi GASYD,

The CAA’s website confirms 9M-OPT is cn 020 which became G-BOPN on 8 Jan 1999 then was cancelled 19 Jan 1999 as sold in Australia, where it became VH-OPI:

David

Which one was at Lovaux at Bournmouth / Hurn? I seem to remember that I was asked to do an engineering assessment on it and turned it what was not a very popular report.:( ANSWER: S/N 020 G-BOPN (September 1990)

I remember, also, the late great Neville Duke did some test flying on it.

I also remember a certain member of staff (not me!) having a look to see if he could discover the source of a noise in the fan intake. Somehow he forgot the engine was running at the time and consequently had to retrieve his somewhat modified specticles from the area near the tail. Much to the merriment of those around! :D:D:D

This talk of Opticas reminds me of being a young child and watching one fly around the local area as the police used it in their hunt for The Fox

I love being reminded on this forum of events and aircraft half forgotten. It seems that there is at least one still flying – or more? It would be fun to see one at an airshow this summer.

Optica Videos wanted

I’ve been searching for the video “Test Pilot” to no avail. Can anyone narrow my search with additional details, please? I have posted several videos and pictures of the Optica to my facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/optica.optica and am always looking for more. It’s unfortunate that this fine airplane got off to such a rocky start, but I am sure that once back in production, it will do exceptionally well. Thanks for all your help. That shot of an Optica was taken at Dunsfold, I guess c. 2005. The tractor is a David Brown and was often used to tow bombs out to Lancasters and other exotic destructive flying machines. Looks awfully like the one at Brooklands Museum, which is kept active.

June 2004,we had been invited to take Hawk XX154(1st Hawk, still at work!!) to Dunsfold for the airshow,I took the pic whilst looking for a tractor to tow the Hawk out on the Monday morning.I didnt use that tractor but used the agricultural one because I learned to drive on them at various gliding clubs as a lad.Well …. it had a brake on one side sort of working:rolleyes:

cheers baz

edit…it was great to take 154 back to Dunsfold and park her in the old flight shed and meet lots of old friends!!
