The project is often met with problems with regard to the machining of cast alloy parts and the production of new components .
Some of our team have engineering skills but are still working full time , to add to this we do not have lathe or milling facilities on site and our limited hours at the project mean that these items have to be produced by our sponsors in whatever free time they can find in their busy schedule.
We would like to run a smoother scheme and the solution to this would be a new team member or members who have a high level of engineering skill and access to a lathe and milling machine. We are thinking along the lines of a retired person within an hours drive of RAF Alconbury where we meet each Wednesday eve and Saturday.
Perks include , a mug, endless tea, banter, leg pulling.

Put something in the local paper, get them to run a piece on the project and put out an appeal. I’m sure you won’t be disapointed.

Smirky, sorry for my careless mistake, but why are you so sure that it’s not worth contacting
the Institution?
Only because it sounded to me that what was required was a machinist, whilst they are often referred to as engineers (as indeed are may other people) I don’t think there will be much overlap with the IMechE. In any case I don’t think they would be naming names.
As a humble electrical engineer I may be wrong …..
And before it all kicks off I mean no disrespect to machinists – I know who I would rather have machining my castings!

Try putting an ad in the Huntingdon volunteer Centre or the Royal Voluntary Service
The RVS specifically help retired people

Have you tried asking engineering companies/facilities if you can advertise in crew rooms? Every work place has a crew room and guys due to retire. Slap up an advert on the cork board, bound to find some help.
