I am currently looking for any original parts, fittings etc, for use in my Sopwith Snipe reproduction.
Parts from any Sopwith type may be of use, as quite a few parts were interechangable between types, especially the S.L fittings.
Manufacturing drawings & information.
Weymann hand wound pump drive gearbox “made in France”.
Badin fuel pump & fuel system parts “made in France”.
MK IV or MK V RPM gauge “must be serviceable”.
MK IV or MK V Airspeed indicator “must be serviceable”.
Inclinometer.
Pusometer.
Bentley BR2 parts.
Vickers gun parts.
Sopwith fuel sight.
Tampier fuel valve.
Tampier throttle quadrant.
Early Air/Fuel pressure gauge.
Magneto’s suitable for Rotary engines.
Any parts or instruments etc for pre 1930’s aircraft or engines, for use in exchanges.
ETC ETC.
I hope to be able to add photo’s of some of the items I am looking for, & of my project, at a later date.

I have made a little more progress on my snipe “see photo’s”.
These are the ply formers for the rear top decking and side fairing. The metal fittings are the rear mount for the Aldis sight and a couple of front fuselage fittings.

Hello Bob.
This is the first time I’ve seen this thread and just wanted to say that I find it quite interesting.
Sorry, I don’t have any bits to offer up.
You’ve not mentioned if you plan for this Snipe to be built as a flier or not.
I’ve read through Nicks thread on “The Aerodrome” forum. He’s really done a marvelous job.
Watching his Snipe leap in to the air is breathtaking! What a hot rod. Thanks for posting and do keep us updated.

Hi Andy
The Snipe is intended to be a flier.
I also followed the Snipe thread on the Aerodrome, it has been extremely interesting.

Sorry to hear of your setbacks with the project, Bob, but it’s great to see you are still persevering and making progress!

It’s been a while since I updated whats going on with my Snipe project, it’s not that there hasn’t been any progress, just that what progress there was, wasn’t worth mentioning at the time it occured, so I am now adding some of the things that have happened since my last post.
Thanks to the sale of a number of items “mostly WW2 bits”, I have bought some much needed materials, and paid for yet more parts to be cut out by laser and CNC router. These parts include various sternpost and tailplane fittings, so with any luck I will be able to make fairly rapid progress with the tail & elevators in the next few months. I have had some more of the decking/fairing formers, instrument panel and trial wing rib webs cut out “thanks Ed ;)”, though I will have to get the company who cut them for me, to re-do the Ed board and a couple of the side formers, as they used the wrong parts of the material that I supplied, I’ll get round to sanding and staining the panel in the next week or two, but need to add the altimeter mounting ring & ply strengthening pieces first.
There has been a major set back regarding the Front engine bearer, as the company that made it, now want a lot more for it than was agreed, and as I have no intention of allowing them to rip me off any further, I can only hope that they will return the items that I supplied to them in payment for it. They also screwed up on some tubing that they squared for me, instead of it being 1″ sq it’s something like 3/4″ x 1″ and they are refusing to rectify their mistake “no surprise there”.
Some good news however, I have found some one who is willing to have a go at making some of the pressed steel control horns for me, and he is well on the way to having the presstools finished, ready for pressing out the blanks.
I am still trying to find some one who can fold up the blanks for the spar clips, once they are finished I can get the centre section assembled, as the spars, nosing and rib webs have already been made.
With any luck I will have the rest of the formers and decking pieces cut out, and the elevator spar ready for assembling by the end of this month “though I’m not going to hold my breath lol”.
The photo’s below are-
The first 3 are an Instrument panel for a WW1 cockpit section “not Snipe”.
The next 2 are the Snipe’s instrument panel and trial webs for the mainplane wing ribs.
And the last 2 are of the “Ed board” and the 5th top former.

Unfortunately not, as I’ve had a bit of a problem with my health lately.
I hope that you find some more bits for the Hornet, whilst your there.

I have the same feelings regarding your Hornet project, & several other projects on this forum, where an extinct type is being wholly or partially reconstructed.
I have thought about starting a cockpit project for a Henley or an extinct 1930’s type, but don’t know for certain if I will.Bob T.
Thanks,
Will you be at Newark at the weekend? If you are, it would be good to chat.

Fantastic project Bob.
I look forward to seeing this grow over the years. There aren’t enough pre-ww2 era aircraft projects around IMHO.

Way beyond what I could safely afford I’m affraid, that & the fact that I might not be able to acquire another BR2 to fit on to my Snipe.
Progress is very slow at the moment, but not at a complete standstill. Here is whats going on at present-
I’m still waiting for Retrotech & Shuttleworth to finish making some of the fuselage fittings, so there is no way that I will be able to start assembling the fuselage this year :(.
I will have to head OOP north soon to pick up the top centre section struts & spars etc, that have been waiting 2 months for me to collect them :o.
Currently keeping my fingers crossed that a certain member of this forum will be able to make some of the shields “cowls” for me, once the weather etc has improved.
I sold a few odds & soddits recently, so will be using the funds raised, on some more spruce & ply etc.
Still having a lot of trouble trying to source Basswood “also called Lime, or Linden” for the instrument panel, the problem being the width needed (approximately 20″), I could obtain it in narrower boards & join them together, but as the drawing seems to indicate it as being made out of one piece, I would rather try & find a board that is wide enough to make it like this.

Will do, though there’s not much happening just now, other than converting some more drawings to CAD, ready for waterjet cutting.
