I’ve flown the FW 190 replica, b****y scary but great fun. Landing needs a bit of attention and has a fast stalling speed with no warning if you are pulling any G.

Which one was that? Any of the UK examples?[/QUOTE]
Yep, it was bought by a group a few years back but we grounded it after about 4 hours of flying for a total rebuild. At some time in its history the main gear had taken a hammering with the result both main wheels had toe out, Sadly to different degrees. Hence it was a bit twitchy on the ground as the plans state that they should have toe in! Also the mags should have been binned twelve years before and were well out of date. We are hopeful it will fly again this year with a new engine rebuild, paint job and all the outstanding work completed.

What’s the safety record like for these WAR replicas? Does anyone know someone who has actually flown one? Things don’t tend to “scale” well in aviation.

Dunno about absolutely superb – absolutely caked in crap, more like. But don’t worry, we got most of it off. 😉

At least some of the replicas try to look similar to their full size prototypes, but what is that thing in the second pic in post 17 supposed to be?

With scalled down replicas the wing loading would be pretty high, so would have to be flown pretty carefully near the stall. (as AFH110 points out).

Well the thing that got me was that it is very big with not a lot of power…

I’m assuming you mean that chap’s idea of the aircraft rather than the real A-10 being screwed up…

Wonder if he’ll put a air-rifle inplace of the Vulcan cannon…. 😀

TNZ

yeah, it sounds like the result of a sleepless night caused by bad digestion of a scale RC modeler.. Somebody must help this chap wasting his money in a more intelligent way…

I know someone who built one – dunno if he flew it, though. It’s the same one in my first pic, and the one I’m standing beside.

Apparently, WAR Australia are cracking on with a P-40…

I remember in the late 70s and early 80s when these began showing up at Oshkosh they caused quite a stir. I haven’t seen one again in decades, though.

..i promised myself not to post here, but come on chaps, that A-10 is too screwed up to be considered the product of a sane mind.. I’m still shivering after having read about the propulsion system..

hmmm…they ain’t flash……

Obviously you can see what they’re meant to be (Mustang and Spitfire for the uneducated ;)), but what were they before?

The “Mustang” is a Kr-1 in reality, but the “Spit”….

(It’s an Australian aircraft, that’s all I know)

I probably have seen it – certainly recognise some of the links on it, including one for the Spitfire Aircraft Co, which is included on my webpage.

Fair comment and the A-10 really is a beastly aircraft which in years to come will be the envy of the next generation of “us” !!!

You may have seen this but it’s a good link http://www.homebuilt.org/aircraft/develop.html

It wore military colours and had a military career – it’s a warbird in my book, albeit a modern one.
