War Graves Raided

Stayed there when I was in the TA a few times. Part of my basic was from there (did it mostly at Bassinbourn). Love the buildings. I have a feeling that my great grandfather (16th Lancers, 1909-1914) stayed there for s while too.

Ah yes. I remember the filming, took them three days to get it right for that 30 second opening sequence.
I think it was one of the last performances by the Band of the Pompadours.
Now living just outside in Rowhedge I was born in Colchester, and grew up about 400 yds from there in Drury Road. What is your connection Snapper ?

Ahh, the Cavalry barracks… many’s the time….and perhaps my grandfather too…. almost certainly my great-grandfather…..ah yes….and Blackadder.

Hope you have some photos of the old place Phil because pretty soon it will all be gone and buried under thousands of houses.
The MOD are going to build a monster new barracks on the land between Kirkee, McMunn and Roman Way.
Half of the Para’s are living in a Portakabin village on Cavalry Barracks and most of the married quarters around the Musket Club have been sold off.
Hyderabad, Meanee, Le Cateu, Flagstaff House, SCREDE, 36 Reme workshops, the Civil Service and Arena Sports etc are all due to be flattened in the next couple of years.
Abbey Fields and the sports pitches will still be there but demolition work has already started around Ypres Road etc. on the land behind where the Mil Hospital stood.

The stable blocks at Cavarly have been listed thank goodness.

Hyderabad Barracks

I was stationed there, that would be great, a battalion of Paras and a Battalion of Green Jackets. The Paras and the Green Jackets could fight over who got to do the business and the perpetrators could watch so it would give them a good idea of what was about to happen to them. Winner takes all. All of the arms, legs, heads, goolies, you name it. Rip their heads off and spit down the necks, rip their arms off and beat them to death with the soggy ends.

They wanna play it sick? See how sick a Rosbif squaddie can get when he is p***ed off. Ah I can see the parade square now.

It is a terrible shame which saddens all decent human beings but unfortunately it is symptomatic of the world we live in. The world that so many made the ultimate sacrifice for.
I would bring these mindless idiots to Colchester, stand them in the middle of the parade ground at Hyderabad Barracks, give them a megaphone and ask them to explain their actions to the assembled might of 2 & 3 Para, then quietly walk away and leave them to their fate.

People just do Alastair. Like some people spend an enjoyable evening having some bloke cut off and sautee their nob, which they both eat, and spend the next ten hours happily bleeding to death before being jointed and cooked. Sounds to me like they both had a ball.

We live in a strange place, and in a strange time. What is of great importance to some, like you and I, is of nothing to others. Not a good thing to die for, but what can you do? I know what I’d LIKE to do, if I got the chance, a pair of steel-toed boots, a soundproof room etc, but it won’t happen. We had a normal gravestone in a cemetery near our school, years ago. Somebody ‘Bullock’. Someone thought it was funny to change it to ********. For a laugh. Nothing more. In this case, it may have been a laugh, it may have been satanism, it may have been mindless, it may have been deliberate. Who knows.

Still very, very sad though.
