Malaysia keeps purchasing and purchasing advanced weapons. This year-purchased French subs, Polish tanks, Russian/Pakistani/British SAMs,Brazillian MLRS, howilizers from south africa, offshore patrol vessels(27 of them)and later MIG-29MRCA or F/A 18 super hornets or SU-30. What is on the defence planners’ mind???????????????
MAF has made this purchases to defend their homeland or to start an arms race or to conquer more land for its already large empire??? There is no need to buy large MBTs-malaysian jungles doesnot support them-use them for anti-terror ops, does not make sense. rather use them against their southenly neighbour. light tanks-alligator tanks from us are already enough.rather than that big huge tank. you may argue that Poland offers barter trade-sure other countries do that too. Since MAF has opperate Scorpion light tanks, just expand on the fleet to reduce maintenance problems. maf has no history in opperating vast fleets of tanks. Why has this need arise now???
MAF will be no match for Singapore Army now with only 25 scorpion Tanks and its huge fleet of armoured vehicles. It should expand its fleet of scorpion tanks as they are the fastest tahl and it is also compact.
The maf has purchased MLRS from brazil. That makes it the second or the third nation after thailand and/or Vietnam and/or Mynamar. Why that requirement??? enemy troops landing on Malaysia and use this MLRS to hit them??? or use it to shell Singaporefom afar without being hit as Singapore’s army’s longesr artillery weapon is only 45km. Singapore has thought of purchasing MLRS from US but abort the plan after it afraid regional countries would be alarmed.A howilizer would be enough for a defence force such as MAF. Could it be that MAF would use this as a psychological weapon to terroize Singapore and its citizens as it could hit far???
Malaysia’s Scorpione Subs would be the region’s most powerful subs when they would be delivered. Why not purchase german subs which are cheaper? I’m sure Germany would sell its 209 subs even if malaysia wants barter trade. They are less powerful but what’s the point of purchasing such a powerful sub? To enforce a blockade onitsregional neighbours’ports??? i’m sure the blockade woukd be more effective now if Malaysia combine its subs frigates and stealth PVs.
MAF, however, lacks AEW, Attack helicopters, and longrange tankers other than its KC-130Hs Even if they are purchased immediately , they won’t be able to work them effectively and integrate them within the force for at least 5 to 10 years
