Not necessarily Historic Aviation per say, but i am wondering if the collective brain trust here can help me identify a movie.
many many years ago while visiting relatives in East Anglia, we used to spend Sunday afternoons watching War movies. This is part of my childhood that has very vivid memories, one such black and white movie ended with a scene that appeared to have been from either Coventry Cathedral or another “bombed out” church. the cast were walking out and the camera pans skyward. At that time a formation of either Hurricane’s or Spitfire’s flys overheard, the music is “onward Christian Soldiers” and the movie then ends.
I am hoping this little information is enough that someone might be able to identify the movie, wish i could remember more. I saw it somewhere around ’79-’81.
any ideas?
thanks and Happy New Year to all fellow aeroplane nuts !

They show it regularly on TCM here.
An effective bit of pro-UK propaganda before the US entered the war.
It was, and remains hugely popular, a real tear jerker.
Now if you’ll allow some UK-style cynicism of “Hollywood”:
I do love the very California-style home the “typical” English family lives in and the fact the father drives a very nice Lagonda.
And I’m sure you’ll hate the Bf-109s…and IRC, the Spitfire isn’t much better.
Aside from that, it’s true to life.

I’ve actually never seen the movie myself, so I’ve just bought it off Amazon!

Thanks again, found a copy on Belle and Blade online, ordered it yesterday 🙂
Funny how some movies as a child just resonate. I have never forgotten that scene, and it actually contributed to the warbird history sickness we all suffer from !
Happy New Year all !
