Obviously, as everyone knows all cockpits from all eras are welcome at the event. However, some feedback from the Fest was that it would be nice to gather the warbird cockpits together. To that end, we have been thinking and would like to create a Warbird Alley for the 2012 event.
The aim would be:
To gather the WW2 cockpits together in one area
Warbird Alley banner
WW2 ‘feel’
Have associated displays (cockpit parts etc)
Reenactor display
Display of international cockpit photos
Individual display trifold template leaflet
Summary display trifold
Audio
WW2 photo cockpit resource
+ anything people can think of.
Please let me know if you are interested (with an email address)

Mersey Mafia
Miaow…:D

There was a suggestion a few years ago that the “mersea mafia” should set up on a revolving stand, to make it easier to hand out the prizes……

Warbird alley was a suggested layout idea….a bit like the NW mafia! It would be nice if the WW2 aircraft could be grouped together but that is as far as it goes, at the moment.
CockpitFest is by its nature and intention an inclusive event which makes it the fun/family event it is!

It’s my understanding that some discussions have taken place via email re the Warbird Alley concept – but I am not aware of any conclusions having been reached. Someone else on this forum may have more knowledge of this point.
The format of the 2012 judging is still to be confirmed. This is likely to be resolved through discussion with event supporters – including some who have still to be formally announced.
To be honest at present a lot of organisational effort at Newark is currently geared towards the Tribute to the V-Force event on April 28th & 29th.
So all things considered it looks like being pretty hectic throughout April and May – so some things don’t seem to change!
That said Cockpit-Fest 2012 looks set to be a belter!! 🙂

Only 2 months to go…..has there been any more thinking regarding a Warbird Alley or the judging:cool::cool:
all the best Matt

We do our best to ensure that no one is left out; with that in mind I’m pleased to report that The Stirling Project exhibit has now been added to the second album! 🙂

Nice one Twin Otter, glad you included a shot of us and our displays in hangar 2! 😎

Surely it would still be possible to have a line up of cockpits etc in chronological order, with the owners who are willing/able to participate in the line up, & another section for those who are unable to do this ?. I know that it may take a little organising, but then hopefully everyone will be happy.

Everything is possible, but what is practical can sometimes be a slightly different matter. Especially when you have to try and take into account, specific Cockpiteer requirements e.g. power supply, extended exhibit space, cockpits from different eras, camping space, etc – however I’ll try to ensure that we’re able to reach an acceptable outcome for everyone! 🙂
John, sorry for the delayed response you now have an email and PM.

😮 Apologies for the omission John – I still cannot find you in my own photos! 😮
If you get me the image over I’ll have it added to the album later this afternoon.
If you can PM me your email address in the next hour before I finish work, I’ll reply back to you with the attachment if that’s ok

It is kind of appropriate that the topic is Stirling related; just off to Stan Bray’s funeral and whilst instructing on 1661 HCU in the summer of 1944 he survived a forced landing in EF125 at Little Stanghton and from baling out of EF444 at Staningley, Leeds.

I give in …. I thought your ‘rather special display’ is due next year!!! 😉
I tried to ensure that they covered all of the displays from 2011 – apologies if we’ve missed anyone! 😮
If anyone has photos of ‘missing displays’ they can email copies through to me and I’ll try and get a third album added!

Sound’s really interesting TT and XM172 – the wider the range of items the better in my book! I think I have email addresses for you both so I’ll make sure they’re passed on to WOS.
I have already started to gather a few contacts on the ‘supporters front’ for prizes etc and this includes trying to pitch the event to a TV contact! 😉
As part of that work for the event I have been wondering about the following ‘judged’ categories / eras for the cockpits (based on year of manufacture?). 😮 First time out for this idea and just a few thoughts to bounce around!
Up to 1950
1950 to 1960
1960 to 1970
1970 to 1980
1980 to date
I know the phrase “can of worms” may come to mind, but what do people think?

‘Lakes Lightnings’ are looking to bring along TWO Harrier cockpits to the 2012 event along with Lightning F6 XS922 again!
T4 nose section and GR3 nose section XZ131…..see you there!…SPLENDID EVENT!!
