Warbird Dreams (If you had the Money )

It seems Tom Cruise bought a Mustang – how would you spend those Millions ???

Personally I would negotiate to have Sally B Painted in Authentic 100th BG Markings and arrange an Airshow over Thorpe Abbotts Control Tower Museum for veterans and interested parties .I would hire a couple of Buchons and have Sally B amushed as she flew over the Tower (Smoke Trailing from engine ) she would circle the field and on the second pass I would arrange to have 2 P51’s ambush the Buchons one of which would be Janie

I think there would be a very awestruck bunch of Spectators there !

For me it would have to be every fisable mark of spit esp a 24, a mustang, a tigercat and a C47 and then take everyone I know to european airshows on it, Also I would try and buy North Weald before the ******************* government get there hands on it 🙁

It would be nice to buy some of the old airfields that are still left, and stop them falling into the hands of developers, and such like.Much like EK,although I don’t think the brothers own it all,do they?

And then if money were no object, and I mean,no object, then a full and complete operational airfield,I would re-create,and then persuade various parties,to part with their collections.(Including the BBMF!!!!)

I’m just off to call my brother, the Sultan of Brunei.

Lots of Spits and P51s flying already so I’d put something in the air that isn’t flying already: a Typhoon, a Wellington or Whirlwind (probably have to be scratch-built so need a rollover week on the lottery). Was watching footage of the Wellingtons fitted with the magnetic-mine rings on TV today (can’t remember the technical term). I imagine one of those would be a quite a crowd-pleaser at any airshow!

I think a Wimpy without the DWI-ring would be as well.
I would support you to get this trio in the air. 😀

go4B17… thanks for the reply and yes I have been to Laurens , SC many times for my work and of course the city of Greenville. Use to work their for my company ,but now back in the home office in Spartanburg…just 35 miles away. Bodney is north of Cambridge, seem,s like it took me about one hour and half to drive there. A very small village, Church…..the old control tower is still there and the land is owned by the MOD!
There is a memorial at the front gate of the military complex just down the road from the control tower. I went there one time to ask premission to take some photo’s of the memorial and talked to a group of Gurkha’s that were traning there, thought that was pretty cool ! If you can play region one DVD’s in your dvd machine, there is a fantastic DVD out now about the 352nd Fighter Group called “The Last Reunion” , go to
http://www.lastreunion.com Its one of the best documentaries I have ever seen on a USAF Fighter or Bomber Group on the market. It would take a vast sum of dollars, pounds and euro’s to restore that control tower…hope the actual group at one time thought about it, but to expensive ! Thanks for the reply and hoped you had a good visit to the colonies on your trip.

Bluenosers

Pretty fantastic idea Bluenoser – I personally would enjoy a 40’s dance in that Community Room .Well I hope you win the Lottery soon and realise your dream

Havent been to Bodney – is it near Duxford

Imagine the ground shaking with the sound of all those Merlins back then – must have been awesome

I have been to the Northern Part of SC – Laurens in fact – I dont suppose you know it -also saw a Musical called “Swing” at Greenville ? – it was about the History of the Jive and Swing Dances that Americans introduced us to over here

I would love to restore the Control Tower at Bodney as a memorial to the men of the 352nd Fighter Group & the local villagers who supported them during the dark days of the Second World War. Request that the road running across the airfield be rerouted and the grass field opened again for small commerical aviation. Have a small museum in the bottom of the tower and build several hangers and hardstands to house several BlueNose P-51’s. Build a community room ,with all the modern day multi-media equipment to show and discuss aviation films & documentries , and a place for the community to use for social events . Not a commerical atmosphere intended, but a special place to visit and remember the men who flew from this airfield in WWII.

I would like to paint a B-24 in the vivid Assembly Ship livery of “Pete the POM Inspector”.
It would certainly make the Red Bull aircraft seem tame by comparison. 😀

The Arado 234B is on display at the new Udvar Hazy Facility at Dulles. At least one is off your list.

Quote from fsbof at Luftwaffe Experten Message Board:

To update this old thread, that Ar 234 is now on much better display at NASM’s new Udvar-Hazy Center just south of Washington-Dulles International Airport, along with the FW 190F-8 that also used to be housed at the Paul Garber facility in Silver Hill.

Thanks Jeff Funk, didn’t read the link before I posted it. 😮

Definitely go for some of the classic british fighters that seem to have been forgotten

three ship of Mosquito, Tempest and I dunno, Firefly? Spit 24 possibly?

Some kind of Axis type would be good. Wheres the Connie Edwards 2-seat Buchon these days?

Good thread

I’d get a Dash 4 Corsair for airshows and such…but I’ve had this discussion before with friends, I’d get a B-25 to take folks with me to airshows, a ‘mobile party’ as it were, kinda like Bill Arnot used to do with ‘Silver Lady’, he had a whole set-up in the bomb bay with chairs, coolers, food, umbrellas, everything you needed for a good day at the air show….it was great.

Me personally…..

Even tho’ I dont have a PPL at the moment, I’d be straight on the fastest transport available over to the States and I’d buy….

For me and when I wanna give some-one a backie, it have to be a twin stick Mustang……

And then, for my own, what the hell I’m going off for some fun type flying…its just gotta be a nice zero timed, so pristine it hurts to look at and you could eat off the wings…..

Corsair !.

Not just any bird tho….bin the standard powerplant and stick a mans engine in front ….summat that’ll make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck…teehee…

Please please please numbers, please come up for me tonight !!!!
