Warbird news censorship – PBY flight from SA to USA

Just noted by some enthusiasts on a forum the following –

“To all our avid Catalina Fans. Many thanks for all the amazing interaction, as we kept you updated on this historic flight. Regrettably, the owner has requested that we refrain from doing any further updates on her flight to San Diego. Any further updates or news will be relayed to you, after we have concent from the owner. We would also wish to request that nobody post any further comments or news, until further notification. Many thanks!”

As a matter of fact, I’m acquainted with someone who has a rather large public profile. I don’t envy him in the slightest. And he has told me more than once that the paparazzi bothers him a lot less than the public. Photographers are, at least, predictable.

Yes because it’s always the press in the wrong and never government departments being economical with the truth! The Levenson Inquiry made me
realise how many of our so called ‘Celebrities’ believe they are saints !
Just a pity the inquiry was a couple of years too late to see Jimmy Saville
explain his right for privacy!

Jayce,
What planet are you living on?
To ask the 4th Estate (TV, radio, newspapers) – or even internet Fora – to “respect” is the most laughable thing I’ve seen/read for a very long time!
Sorry, but The World is a nasty place!

And it’s precisely that inability of the media and certain members of the public to know the difference between the want to know and the right to know that has lead us to the Levenson Inquiry.

One might even take that inquiry as a hint that many people find such behavior rude and unacceptable.

Asking the Internet to keep quiet about a flight to the USA is going to attract
attention from more than just US Customs

I don’t doubt your good intentions – but it just don’t happen! They are all out there (plus their paparazzi jackals) waiting to ‘blow’ some story, or ‘secret’ information. It’s how they make their livings. To think otherwise is naive in the extreme!

While I feel there is merit to the argument that ex-airforce aircraft were built with public money and rendered public service and that there is legitimate public interest in them as a result. I do feel some people need to learn to accept that they are cared for by private owners, usually using private money and that such requests should be respected.

The amount of catty sniping and sense of outraged entitlement I often see displayed by some on here, WiX and PPRuNe appalls me. It’s exactly the type of behavior that leads some owners to tire of public interest in the first place.

If you can’t treat an owner and their wishes with civility and respect, do the rest of us who can a favor and find another hobby.

Indeed, it is the owners right to do as he wishes. No use in posting this, Phil.

You may find that bleating to the world what you are flying from XYZ can bring out all the we do not want it leaving the country brigades… Even though none of them were interested in it during its stay, hence his requests.

Censorship it isnt. There is huge expectation that all owners will share all of their personal business with whomsoever asks them about it.

Yes, it will land, and be logged at any number of places as it makes its trip, but if the owner doesnt want to talk about it any further, then tough!

The owner is quite entitled to ask what ever he likes, but to then fly half way round the planet using public airports and expect people to keep it quiet is a tad optimistic…

Bit of an oxymoron.

This is a joke, surely. they specifically request that no news be relayed, so phil feels the need to post it on two more forums…words just fail me!

well lets not take any notice of that request!

But otherwise a much more accurate subject title and introductory paragraph.

(and no its not a personal attack Phil, just a friendly highlight of the irony of spreading such news from that forum to here)
