'Warbirds' from the 1960's

The P38 is a late model Lightning, probably an F5G Recce bird. Didn’t Spartan Executive have a few of those that did a lot of mapping in Canada etc?

Hi Dan,

Look at the cowling again these are from a E model and the nose package is not the type Hurd used, they had a more rounded package.

Maybe Mk12 can give us the writing on the tail so we can cross match it.

Henlow for BoB film ?

I saw the collection lined up for BofB at Henlow but it doesn’t look particularly familiar.

However, I did see it in colour. 🙂

It’s so long ago now I’m only really left with a mental impression, rather than clear memories.

Well it looks like the shots are from the early 1960’s and I have amended the thread title by moderator’s privilege.

Here is a further shot that might just tax the brains of the Spitfire buffs.

Six Spitfires visible in a row, so, year, location, mark and serial number of the aircraft. It took me awhile to figure it out but I have it now.

The more I look at the Goose it appears to be a JRF-5 notice the footbal on top of the rear fusl. also it still has the 985s and haml. Stander prop. also behind the Tigercat is a Stearman which appears to being modfided for Crop Dusting it has the big engine mod and their is a duster bin.

So do you have any more 😀

I see from Google and the Warbird Index Register that the Lancaster KB848 was S.O.C. RCAF April 1964, much later than I had imagined.

I believe all the shots were taken on the one roll of film.

Lets see what I can come up with,

First the A-26 is a C model still with its Korean Night Scheme on it I’m guessing the photo was taken early 1963 just after Vance Roberts bought it surplus, The plane is now part of Air Spray Ltd. in Red Deer Alta. (Tanker #4)

Location is Boeing Field Seattle

The Tigercat is either Cal-Nat Airways or Sis Q Flying Service circ. 62-65 location I’m guessing Santa Rose Calf. if you look at the bellie you can tell this plane was about to recive the tanker package.

The P-38 appears to be the following aircraft P-38E 41-2048 notice the Cowlings are early model 38s. If it is this aircraft then the owner at the time was Hycon Aerial Service circ 54/62 the plane was used for Magnetometer Surveys and I’m guessing the photo was taken at Ontario Ca. The 247 seems to make it Ontario also since this was the location of four 247 in the mid 50s thru early 60s.

The TBM is one of the many TBM Inc. aircraft the location of this shot is most likely Sequola CA where they did all their tanker Mods.

Hope this helps a little keep them come also you might want to put up a thread on Wix and see what us Yanks can find for you.
