Too bad they didn’t keep a few more of their own (and foreign) types as museum pieces after the war.
Flanker man: Do the Russian history texts acknowledge the many foreign types used in the GPW, or do local types get the main attention?
And do they fess up to building some types (the B-29/Tu-4) without licenses?

That’ll be it then! 😉

Could be, or it could be the one in the photos I was thinking of, as I knew there was already one flying with an Allison which, I presume, is Yagen’s aircraft?
Yagen’s is Allison powered and did fly in Russia but I don’t think it has ever been flown here in the USA. As far as I know it is still being worked on as the original restoration was reportedly not to a particularly high standard.

Great photos.
Am I right in thinking there’s another MiG-3 being rebuilt to airworthy status?
Yagen has one in Virginia Beach, Va slowly being re-worked after being restored and test flown in Russia. Is that the one you’re thinking of Daz?
Great pictures by the way, thanks for sharing them Flanker man.

There is still an airworthy Li-2 (HA-LIX) based in Hungary, although she flies in post-war civil colours.
Seen in 2006 at the Aviodrome in the Netherlands.

Lovely selection – pity no P39 or P63 …

A great selection of pics, thanks for sharing. With regard to the Avenger and Corsair, both were used by the Fleet Air Arm on escort duties for Arctic convoys, so there is a Russian connection.
It looks as though the show organisers went to great lengths to book the right types of aircraft, it’s great to see lend-lease types getting such coverage at a Russian show alongside the native types.
As an aside, although it seems a shame that there was no Li-2, some American-made DC-3/C-47/C53 were also supplied to the Soviets, so a pure DC-3 is still fitting.

Looks like fun! A terrible shame that there doesn’t appear to be any airworthy Li-2’s left in Russia. Would’ve been nice to have the Il-2 there also…

I see a ’23’ in there as well.
So there were other I-15s restored as well as the three Alpine Fighter Collection ones?
There were no I-15s like this one in New Zealand. There were, however, 3 I-153s, a different (although similar) type. The main difference is that the I-15bis has a one-piece separate upper wing, unlike the I-153’s gull wing.
MiG-3 ‘White 17’ is now with Jerry Yagen in Virginia Beach. They do seem a little wary of the Russian aircraft there, the last I heard the (ex-OFMC) La-9 had not been re-assembled, and I’m not sure if they fly their Polikarpovs at all, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it remains ground-bound for the time being at least.
