Warmwell Wall Art Saved, Whirlwind Connection

On BBC Solent Radio this morning they mentioned this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-31904946
Well done to the people who saved it.

It was great to be able to tell Jeff Beaumont about this and see him reunited with the mural. Jeff was already ‘on the project’ with us. Furthermore, it is Bob Beaumont’s usual mount (complete with nose-art) Whirlwind P7056 that we are intending to represent with our replica.

Great news that it has gone back to his family.

Hi,
The pilot wasn’t Sydney Beaumont but Robert (Bob) Beaumont of 263 Squadron. He flew Whirlwinds with 263 and took part in the series of attacks against the Munsterland in Cherbourg Harbour (this was featured in Flypast a couple of years ago, illustrated with a painting by him of the raid ). He died in a Typhoon crash in August 1944 while flying with 85 GSU. His family have been contacted and the painting was presented to them last weekend.

The link to the TV programme may not be up for much longer.
I think it’s a great bit of news, local people recognising important local history and a family reunited with a precious memoir.
Doesn’t happen often enough.
