Could someone please confirm that the many thousand images taken during the war and now held at Edinburgh and were not destroyed post war?
Many thanks

It’s in Dutch but not too hard to figure out. You’ll have to pay for the images but the actual resolution is massive if you’re trying to pick out ground features.

Hi
Not sure what you are after but don’t forget that the Germans also took aerial photographs during the war. As the Americans moved across Europe they confiscated what they could of these and they are now held by NARA in the ‘states (google NARA Archives). They will happily look up what they have, given the date and the location – I have some pics of a 1940 UK Q-Site from them.
No guarentees of course, but it is another possible avenue, and hopefully others might find images for their research from NARA. If you find anything they will pass the negatives to a local scanning agency for a scan of your choice and can let you have them by file transfer. It takes blooming ages but you will get a photocopy first so you can see what might come later at hi-res.
Good Luck
James

You might want to try asking over here as well: http://ww2talk.com/forums/forum/67-airborne/
There are a lot of folks there who have collected aerial coverage of the Arnhem area and done analysis.
There’s also this collection: http://www.wwii-photos-maps.com/aerialnetherlands/index.html

Have you tried looking through the images here? http://ncap.org.uk/browse/finding-aids

Many thanks all –
The reason behind the question is that I am doing some research for the family of a war casualty who died following a Dakota crash during the Arnhem campaign. In addition to the many sources of info available I am trying to specifically locate the position
The aircraft impacted south of the river in the Driel area and I am hoping a photograph of the area after the accident may reveal its specific location, therefore the question is, who might I approach with my request.
Many thanks

There are several sources of surviving wartime PR photos, which ones are you after? Useful link to what is held in Edinburgh – http://ncap.org.uk

Can you clarify the question please? It’s easy to confirm that any images that now exist in Edinburgh were not destroyed post war, but was that the question?
