Watch returned to Pilot's family.

Back in 2008 I helped excavate a FAA Corsair in Somerset, story here:

Amongst the fragments discovered were the remains of a wristwatch. This was returned to the MoD as per licence and they tried to trace any surviving family to whom it could be returned. Unfortunately no contact was made, despite a newspaper article in the pilot’s home town and the watch was returned to me. Through the wonders of the internet a relative researching their family history responded to the archived article. It transpired that the pilot’s sister was alive and well and living in Scotland.
Today I had the great pleasure to meet her and members of her family. Her brother Richard had been in the RAF but transferred to the Navy because he ‘wanted more action and to fly from carriers’. She was able to visit Scriminger paddock, now named after him and see the spot wher his Corsair came down. After 65 years the last of Sub Lieutenant RC Scriminger’s personal effects were reteurned to his next of kin. One of those days which makes life worth living.
