Hadn’t seen it since I was a kid. Noticed a few LandRovers about the airfield… & the bad guys in *Norway*were driving what appeared to be a Saracen?
Also noticed that during the bomb runs, the sky behind the aircraft tilts the wrong way when they bank right to release the bomb…
What a pile of tosh… ๐

Not to mention MvR dragged Brown out of a wrecked plane…!

Well. I watched The Red Baron yesterday afternoon, what a load of cr@p! 633 and Mosquito squadron are classics worthy of oscars compared to this rubbish. Anyone else seen this? Apparently The Baron and Roy Brown met up for a chat in a field!

It did appear for the film “Mosquito Squadron”
Which, of course, recycled pretty much all of the Mosquito footage from 633 Squadron. RR299 would have been painted to match the aircraft in the first film.

299 was having maintenance at the time IIRC. It did appear for the film “Mosquito Squadron”
By: richw_82 - 20th December 2011 at 22:36
Thanks! I always assumed it was RR299, as it wore “633 Squadron” codes for quite a while.
By: richw_82 - 20th December 2011 at 18:39
Mosquito T3 RR299 was not in fact used in “633 Squadron” as it was undergoing an overhaul at the time. However it was used in “Mosquito Squadron.”
So which one is the genuine solid nose aircraft in the film then?

Well a good soundtrack at least !
Well at least Ron Goodwin gave us a very good soundtrack and theme music for the film….. love the flying scenes….. you guys would make tough film critics for sure….. you can pick up the dvd of the film here for about ten bucks …..

I’ve still never seen this film.
You have got to be kidding James!!!!

I think it is funny how we think about films…
…my view is that โ633 Squadronโ is bloody awful except for the few minutes worth of real Mosquito footage. On the other hand โIce Cold in Alexโ is one of my favourite films and Iโm prepared to forgive the Landrovers, Afrika Corps M3 Halftracks and target-tug Bristol Beaufighter (although anything with a Beaufighter in is OK in my book).
I guess it is down to the quality of the production, the standard of acting and the plausibility of the story.

Terrible movie anyway you look at it.

Several guys were of the opinion that all the aircraft were burned following completion of the film. One poster, a volunteer at the NMUSAF, didn’t realize the Mossie he sees daily is a film “star”. With the exception of the much missed RR299, the planes that survived filming (two (RS718 and TA724)destroyed during filming, one (TA642) wrecked in a ground accident before filming) are still with us.
At least they made good use of the bellied-in ship in the films…using the footage twice in the first film and again in the second.[/QUOTE]

Spooky – I hadn’t seen the movie for decades, and bought it a few weeks ago cheap in HMV as a triple disk with ’12 O’clock High’ and ‘The Blue Max’.
I enjoyed seeing the other two again, but apart from the actual shots of Mossies and Maria Perschy, thought 633 was utter tripe.
Considering the actors involved (with the exception of Chakiris!), and the film prop assets they had at their disposal, much, much more could have been done.

Its a shame that the film companys cannot get the vehicles right in a lot of these films with the amount of preserved military vehicles in the uk alone it wouldnt be a problem. Another film thats got the wrong vehicles is ice cold in alex with bedford r series and series one and two landrovers none of these vehicles were about until at least 1948. To a military vehicle collector like myself its akin to using a stealth bomber in a remake of the dam busters.

and where did all the fins go in the cockpit shots!
Little known Flying Wing variant ๐

I caught part of 633 Squadron on TV the other day. It had been a long time since I’d seen it.
I have to admit I cringed a bit watching it. Loved the Mossies, but the film itself left a bit to be desired.

One of my aviation dreams/fantasies is flying lery low and very fast in a twin-engined aircraft. Dodging imaginary flak, keeping an eye out for Fw-190s….al the while humming the tune.
I was privileged, by change to have a real Mosquito (RR299) do that overhead once, just like I was on the coast of Holland…
As a kid (many years ago now) I was trudging seawards in some massive dunes at Braunton Burrows, North Devon, when, looking out to sea, the Mosquito came howling in from the sea and whammed overhead inland. Iโve seen this Mozzie on countless occasions and the tragic loss of her crew is still difficult to accept, but for me thatโs what flying, not static aviation is all about. It was about 10sec total, but itโs unforgettable.

The theme and flying low and fast made a huge impact on me as a child.

A Mosquito would be my first choice, but availability gives second place to the Douglas Invader….then a B-25. In reality, I’d settle for an early Cessna 310. ๐

I always found George Chakiris somewhat misscast as a Scandinavian….
Dont know what the problem is !! Didnt you know the Vikings founded the Greek empire, and thus left some of their progeny there, after discovering the enigma machine hidden in a Russian space station that was orbiting Mars and was really a secret base for the 4th Reich ?
Still love the film , inspired god know’s how many purchases of Airfix Mosquito Dogfight Doubles way back when !
