I have had my hand slapped by moggy for going off topic im a big man i’ll take it like one.
So im going to ask the question here.
Those videos that are posted of the p-51 crash at Reno has got many very exited about the content of those clips but why has the thread got out of control with folks moaning about the clips?
IT’S YOUR CHOICE TO WATCH IT, so why did you then comment on it as it’s very unfair for them to post it?
You im sure & i will watch a Hollywood Blockbuster movie for all the real action & that clip didn’t show any “real life” horror only what you know happened when a plane explodes next to folks watching but the clip i watched never showed any of that so it’s no different to a movie clip.
Real life motorway crashes happen every day with loss of life & very sad to all involved this is no different because it’s a p-51 at Reno.
Lets not get this one moderated like the other one or my backside will sting for a week.!!

I dont really see a problem in posting a link to a video as long as the people are made aware that it could be disturbing and possibly what is contained within. Then people can then make an informed decision on whether or whether not to click the link.
Now please oh please do not take me the wrong way in what I am going to say next as I have been thinking of other ways to put this but it seems like the only way I can put it is by saying it the only way I can at the moment.
I watch crash videos as a way of learning and trying to understand the way in which accidents occur and why. I enjoy watching these videos as a way of learning.
This was the word to not take the wrong way.
I do not however watching enjoy watching human suffering so would not possibly like to see over 5 minutes of the crowd from an airshow crash writhing about on stretchers and being carted off to hospital. I can however deal with this and put it in context to try and follow what has happened around the scene ie the spread of wreckage and where everything happend to end up.
Why am I like that? Because I am interested in the subject. What causes accident and how to prevent them. Maybe one day I will be the one to recommend to the CAA of whomever the official body is that airshows should be given the green light to continue because of A, B and C. You never know but one day it might be my job.
In the mean time I keep a close interest in the subject. I have been to quite a few historic wreck sites over the years but not as many as other have been to and I learn from each one. I try and understand what happened and why.
I do agree with both sides of this argument from different angles as there are a number of things about this. Like I think people should be shielded from the gore as some people would have it but personally it doesnt bother me. Maybe from the amount of gore films and maybe from the amount of documentaries about the war in (Enter theatre of operation here) that show the bloodiest of injuries and death there on our screens I have become a bit less sensative to the whole thing. It does mean that I dont care that people have lost their lives I do but I can however put my feeling like that to one side because I did not know these people. Now it may be different if someone I knew or love was there and injured.
I dont really care that now I may be called several different names because of how I think. I really dont care that you dont want to see videos or that you want to see videos. It is life and the loss of life. It is a fact and it was factual. It was an event that happened.
What I do care about is that the whole subject is treated with the care respect and dignity it deserves and doesnt end up becoming a side show in a circus as it some many times has in the past.
Just remember there are other people viewing that may see your comments and who may even be one of the grieving families.
My piece said and I will say no more on it. I just felt this thread does deserve some sort of reply and is a better place here in GD than on the incident thread on historic.

There must be something in the water today……

Indeed – so your question has been answered.

However a thread serves several purposes, not the least of which is as a discussion/debating area.
No! Really?
Imagine that.

A question for the initiator, really.

I suppose that question could be posed of numerous threads in GD and elsewhere. However a thread serves several purposes, not the least of which is as a discussion/debating area. I don’t see this thread as redundant in that respect.

What purpose can this thread possibly serve?

Certainly, it is the job of Moderators to moderate and in this respect they do an exceptionally good and thankless task.
Yes on the whole they do however Moggy has slapped my hand with his cane for going off topic!
These threads seem to go “off topic” every day it just seems i hit a raw nerve with this one, fair enough.

Piston Power
You are right. One does not have to view a particular thread, video, film, TV programme…whatever. However, even if one does not view or paricipate in such things then the fact that the content of some threads, posts or links were not exactly timely or in good taste does not mean they will go away or become irrelevant to those who choose not to view them. Just as Sky High says!
Certainly, it is the job of Moderators to moderate and in this respect they do an exceptionally good and thankless task. However, that is surely not to say that others cannot comment on a public forum by posting their own views on the matter?
In respect of another thread, I could not help but keep getting an uneasy feeling that this whole thing was being viewed, by some, as ‘entertainment’ with a needless thirst for more and more links, the grislier the better, and with one poster even bemoaning the fact that he couldn’t get sound. There was a very narrow margin and a thin line between acceptable and reasoned discussion and that which was not. More often than not it strayed into the latter.

Thanks for the reply.
The first post clip shows the p-51 come down and explode on impact, but thats all it shows & im thinking there has been some photo’s showing more but have been deleated but they always show up on the net for us all to see at some stage.
What i can’t fatham out is why on here it’s the “ball over the wall” when one does not like the opinion of another, yes by all means comment thats what the forum is about and share information.

I think there is a parallel with television programmes. We always have the option of the off switch but I don’t think that denies us the right to comment on the quality, suitability or relevance of particular programmes. We are all members of this forum so I would like to think we have the right to comment on and/or complain about threads and their content.
