I thought I’d share this shot taken from the Wattisham control tower during a photocall for the BoB 50th Anniversary flypast. The day was a practice for the F-4 elements of the flypast. Rows of F-4’s , steam takeoffs, a day to remember.
Pity there are so few left now, not like to good old Bucc. Even the Shar FA2’s are getting into private museums now.
It was good to see XV408 on display at RIAT this year, surely her dyas are numbered now?

Nice piece of F-4 memorobilia, although its not a ‘lower cockpit panel’ though, panel 62R is located below the tailfin just in front of the tailplane (right hand side).

What a fantastic picture, taken back in the days when we still had an Air Force! 🙁
I’ve got a great video somewhere of the stream take-off, what a sight!

Managed to have quite a good look around/under/inside XV408 at Fairford. unfortunately, she’s in quite a state. The cockpit is completely stripped of any instrumentation (although I think the throttle tops may still be in place, all the panels are missing about 90% of the fasteners and there is a fair amount of corrosion around the airframe, especially in the bays. Shame, really.

Coincidently I was reading the ‘Wattisham Chronicles’ on airscene yesterday. There are quite a few photos and pages of memories from the Phantom days. See:- http://www.airsceneuk.org.uk/wattisham/partfive/partfive.htm
