Noise from the Blades display travels a fair distance on the right breeze. Was able to listen to it in the garden and play “Guess the formation” from over 10 miles away.

A great afternoon out at Wattisham Airfield today, plenty of interest throughout from the Blades to Ms Grace and a 9 Ship Apache finale. Very well attended and apart from a couple of spells of drizzle the weather stayed fine and warm
I thought the ‘show of strength’ with automatic weapons at the gates looked a bit OTT as I also had a base tour at Lakenheath yesterday and that was nothing in comparison
All in all a good show………well done all……..I look forward to the next 70th Birthday!:p

Has the Phantom cockpit made the trip to Wattisham from the City of Norwich Aviation Museum? When I visited the Norwich museum a couple of months back, they said that they had been asked if it could attend, but the position of the Phantom at the museum was going to make it difficult to move.

Tickets for the familes day are still avalible and so are tickets for the function in the evening.
a lightning cockpit is part of the static display for those who want to know.
At the risk of ‘tit for tatting’, I know of several civilians who’ve tried to obtain tickets for both events only to be told no more are available, this was the situation as of this afternoon and for over a week. It may be different for military personnel for the evening do.

The gen at the moment there will be at least 16 Apaches in the air together but as always there will u/s aircraft so 10 is looking likely.
Get yourselfs a ticket its looking to be a good afternoon of flying and static aircraft.
From what I can gather all tickets went a couple of weeks ago.
I saw the flying programme today and from memory it includes…..
seaking, yak, nanchang, the blades, Vans Rv8, Dakota, Spitfire, more Apaches than you can shake a stick at, Lynx….and a few more than I can remember.
Weather is rumoured to by very wet or quite sunny depending on which weather report you believe!

FYI
The BBMF website is currently showing a Dakota flypast for Saturday 11th.
The Blades webiste is saying they are booked to display there on the 11th.
The Vulcan website doesn’t mention Wattisham as it only has Lasham and Yeovilton for the 11th.

Apparently flying starts at 1pm.
The lancaster may put in an appearance, as may the Vulcan. The blades are booked and various American hardware may do a flypast.
A16 ship formation of Apaches is also planned as well.
