…till it’s gone.
It’s upsetting to look back at aircraft, pilots and airfields that are no longer with us…
I was browsing through some of my parents old photo albums when i came across a collection of photos from some of the 80’s warbird shows. Duxford, Biggin Hill, North Weald and primarily, the Great Warbirds Air Display at West Malling (now Kings Hill 😡 ).
The latter was our local show which we attend every year without fail from start to finish.
I started to get very sentimental and decided to scan them all, so i have copies on my PC to look at whenever I want.
I thought i’d share some of them with you guys to see what you think, maybe they’ll stir some memories up – i’d love to hear some of your personal recollections of those fantastic shows!
Beware, they are not DamienB/Manonthefence masterpieces, but i think they’re ok ;).

hmmmmmmmm….MOOOOSE!
Moose was THE one. Moose/Candyman was my first ever encounter with a mustang. It is this aircraft, in these colours which defines a mustang to me. Well, there might be more colourful mustangs out there, i know there are, but it is our dear old Moose which started things off with me, and i owe a lot to it!
I’ve been looking through this thread in it’s entirety tonight – brings back great memories of GWAD, Fighter Meet, Biggin etc.
Chris, I feel the way about MH434 in it’s Adrian Swire scheme as you do about Moose. During the mid-Seventies the aircraft popped in to Shoreham unanounced and gave a tremendous display, while me and a school mate were looking round the hangars. What a special impact these aircraft have on us as youngsters.

When was the picture of Doug Arnolds P51D Petie2 taken?
And who were the pilots of this and the P38 and did he have pilots that flew regularly for him?
Petie 2nd appeared one day at West Malling probably somewhere around 1989. Chris Bevan used to do the majority of the flying for Doug.

Thank you for those who have contributed to this post so far. I never expected to see so many gems! Keep it up, so that other people who lurk around this froum can appreciate them.
duxfordhawk- I Have photos of firefly taken this year including photo with Hurricane, gladiator and nimrod taken at Duxford just before accident it doesnot seem right to post them though,i miss her and crew badly.
I understand your reservation duxfordhawk, but i feel this thread is a place for rememberance. It would be nice to see your pictures of the firefly and her devoted crew where they belonged, in the air. If anyone else objects to this please share your views, but i believe they should be posted as a memorial to the RNHF crew passed from this life doing something they loved.
regards,

In what way? Lost to the UK audience?
These two both still fly – D-FEHD is part of the Messerschmitt Foundation (can’t remember the current reg), and G-HUNN is now N109GU.
