.. over the Chrimble holidays… Some retard demolished Hangar #1 at Van Nuys. It was outside the current airport fence, but still leased out by the the Airport. It was originally built in the ’20’s & is clearly seen in the movie Casablanca. It was known locally as “the Casablanca Hangar”
There’s been quite a bit of fall out over the demo job, letters & articles in the LA Times etc…everyone denying knowledge of the deed etc, a complete & utter cluster….It had been used recently by a company who made duct work ofr A/C etc
The one saving grace is that the bloke who owns the Airtel hotel at Van Nuys airport got wind of what was going on, tore over there & managed to buy one complete facade from the end of the hangar before it all went off to the city dump.
Plans are to restore the facade & put it somewhere inside the hotel 🙂

ZRX61.
I resent your use of the term “retard”.

Sounds like someone took a page out of the Richard Daley Airport Administration rulebook.

Hi All,
That’s disappointing news. At least some of it was salvaged.
On the subject of “Casablanca”, every time I fly into LAX there’s an old style building in sound condition near the freight operations. I’ve been told that this was also used as the terminal in the movie “Casablanca”. Any thoughts?
Cheers
