WE NEED HELP TO FIND A SOPWITH CAMEL!

We need help to find a Sopwith Camel!

——————————————————————————–

Hello everyone,

I am a young student at Adelaide Biplanes, Aldinga Airfield, South Australia which is in the McLaren Vale wine region. I am 14 years old and learning to fly the Cubcrafters Sport Cub. I love the challenge of learning to fly tailwheel. On the counter of our flight office, Gaylene has a sawn off hub of an old propeller, that her son Matt bought at Ardingly Antiques Fair, West Sussex, when he was 14 as well. Gaylene writes the stories on our website. http://www.adelaidebiplanes.com.au We believe it is from a Sopwith Camel, but what we are trying to do is find the registration of the aircraft and some history about the aircraft it came off. Can anyone help us with some information or direct us to a good place to continue with our search? More than anything we would love to find information about the pilots who may have flown her and touch history.

The Markings on the propeller are as follows,

DIA 2590
PITCH 2650
G 1282 N54
AD644RH
CLERGET 130HP

If anyone can help please post a reply!

Many thanks,
Jack Madeley

Hi Jack

Although you have a lot of info there about the propeller, there is nothing to link it to a specific airframe. I am assuming at this point that those details match a Clerget Camel, Perhaps ‘Annerac’, a valued poster on this site will reply.

So many props were disposed of as surplus after the Great War that it may not even have been fitted to a plane. To link it to anyone, you would have to have some other provenance such as a named photo album etc, sold at the same time.

Sorry not much help.

John
