Weekend Weather Forecast

Hello,

Changes taking place in the weather setup over the coming 5 days or so. Cold air that has “hugged” the pole over the past few weeks wil slip westwards. A split in low pressure crossing the east Atlantic will send a piece into the Mediterranean, building pressures through the UK and Ireland and bringing cooler westerly winds. How cold and for how long, I’m not sure!

If you need us over the weekend, the numbers are 090 666 444 80 at £1.50 per minute or 01902 895252 to pay by credit card for a forecast.

Have a good one,
Simon

Hi Lazy D,

Good to hear from you.

The forecasts are issue are just a broad brush to highlight any areas of good/bad flying weather. They are posted on another flying forum too and there are certainly no complaints raised there, in fact, they are very popular.

Best wishes,
Simon

Hello Simon

As a newby around here, it is nice to see some activity on these forums. I was beginning to wonder what I had joined. I share the concern that others have raised that your forecasts are far too general to be of any particular use to pilots. It would be nice to hear your reaction to that observation.

Hi Chaps,

I am around, but rather busy! If you want to ask me any questions then do email me at simon@weatherweb.net and I’ll gladly come along and take part in a forum discussion.

The forecasts are there for you to use, and yes they do advertise my business but you may be surprised to learn that the forum generates virtually no income at all and these forecasts are provided for your use, so use ’em and don’t moan about it!

If you read Todays Pilot you’ll see I write a regular “Weather School” feature in there and these forecasts are part of my commitment to that feature.

What exactly is different about these forecasts from the ones I can get for free from the Met Office Aviation web site, apart from the price? I haven’t actually had a look but would like to hear from those that have.

Young man. I trust that I don’t come across as Mouse-like. I am puzzled by the term “oversized Giant” though.

I just think it would be nice for Simon to contribute rather more than an occasional advert, thinly disguised as a not-particularly-aviation-specific weather outlook.

I shouldn’t need to phone him up to express that view.

Trinny, Simon’s direct contact details can easily be found. Perhaps you should phone him and ask? Are you a mouse or an oversized giant? 😀

I always try to have a little chat with Simon after he posts the weather, but he always seems to go strong an silent on me.

A cynic might speculate that the forum is essentially just a place on the internet for him to advertise his premimum-rate phone lines.

On a more practical note, I think you’ll find that Simon’s links work if you remove the final bracket which he obviously didn’t intend to include within the URL in each case.

Hello Simon

Thanks for posting the weather info. I have just noticed that none of the links that you posted work.

Hi Simon

Sorry our secret rendezvous this Saturday is not to be. Perhaps another time. Have you seen the current weather quiz on this forum?

Thanks Weatherman – appreciate your postings on this and other forums.
Feel that anyone who has a basic understanding of the UK weather system can use them for forward planning.

Interesting stuff, but I’ll ask the usual question….

How am I meant to make any kind of flight-planning decision based on that information? It is not an aviation forecast as such because it doesn’t contain aviation-specific information of the sort I would need.

In particular, missing predictions include viz, ceiling, cloud-cover/type and freezing level.

Yup, it’s terrible…

Was at Cambridge in the morning, whilst there a KLM DC10 took off on 05 when we were standing in the light aircraft park, couldn’t have been 200 metres away….

😮

Whilst we await the pictures it has to be said that North Weald had its moments.

Mr Teichman flew his P51 in the morning and his P40 in the afternoon. It’s a hard life.

Just a little early morning freezing fog to contend with Moggy. Should all be gone by mid-morning.

Thanks,
