Today at the Museum we welcomed 93 year old Walter A Eacott (OAM) who got up into the cockpit of the Beaufighter for a look around. Walter advised that 72 years ago on this day he was shot down in his British Beaufighter was made prisoner of war and then escaped to do further RAF duties. What a legend, and uncanny coincidence to have him with us today. These are the times that make us proud as volunteers to be sharing such experiences.

What a heart-warming story ! Whch one is the son ?
It is a shame that the RAF museum come up with such a stack of reasons why , inevitably, this would of course be impossible in their exhibits.

Walter actually put a lot of our members to shame with how easily he got in – he had to go in via the rear hatch as the key to unlock the ladder in had been misplaced. That did not stop him one bit – they remember their time in the aircraft all too well and it was like it had come back to him in a flash. He was 19 when shot down.
Some more pics just sent to me by his son

Popping up in the radio op location.

Loving being inside the aircraft and being able to show his son what he flew

Lost in thought as he looks over the cockpit.

A lovely moment for both of you, Ewan, well done. And at 93 Walter did well to get himself back up into the Beaus cockpit.
