The best match I have ever witnessed in my life!!! At half time I thought Liverpool were truly dead and buried….but I suppose you should never underestimate the reds!! What I’m confused with though is why can’t Liverpool play like that in the Premiership. If they did then they would definately at least beat Crystal Palace.

Grey – I did say that no one will make way, I was just making the point than in an extreme case, it would be Everton, no way they will be kicked out though.

Not saying anyone will make way, but if they do it should be Everton as they have the lowest number of points.

Yes, Tom – 3 more than Liverpool finished up with.

Along with every other team involved, Liverpool knew UEFA’s rules when they kicked off in their first qualifying match back at the start of this season’s tournament.

The time to object about the rules was then, not now.

Edited to add:

Liverpool are the best team in Europe.

But only the 5th best in England, which is why Everton qualified for next season’s tournament and Liverpool didn’t.

You have a point about them finishing 4th, but at the start of the season, the 4th place team qualified, just like Liverpool did last year.

Everton should not be pulled out.

For the European Champions not to be able to defend their title makes a bit of a mockery of the whole competition if you ask me. Do they deserve to be in it instead of Everton? Of course they do. Everton came fourth in the domestic league, Liverpool are the best team in Europe.

Although I personally think allowing four teams into the ‘Champions’ League is a bit ridiculous anyway – they only do it for the money. In an ideal, non-financially driven world we would bring back the ‘European Cup’ which had no qualifying rounds, no ‘leagues’ – it was just your good old fashioned knock out competition.

Of course, in an even more ideal world Arsenal should have to make way for them :D:D:D:D:D

Why should Chelsea make way? They won the league.

Not saying anyone will make way, but if they do it should be Everton as they have the lowest number of points. It would be criminal if Everton werent allowed to play in the CL, but Liverpool should also be there.

Anyone here the story about the Welsh champions? They offered to play Liverpool in a one off match, and if they won, they would get into the qualifiers. Very kind of them, but its not gonna happen.

Here’s a thought for you……

Since the European Champions used to qualify as of right for the next season’s tournament, surely if anyone is to make way for Liverpool it should be either Arsenal or Chelsea?

After all, we can’t have the European Champions playing in the qualifying rounds, can we? :diablo:

Bolton will do average.

All credit to Liverpool, although I’m not entirely convinced that Dudek should have been allowed to get away with his Grobelaar impressions – IMHO the penalties should have been retaken. Radio 5 Live commentary (esp. Mike Ingham) was outstanding, almost on a par with Ian Robertson’s commentary during the 2003 Rugby World Cup Final.

4 English team.

Which kind of makes a mockery of the term “Champions League” doesn’t it? Bit difficult for one country to have four Champions. I wonder whether UEFA can be had up under the Trades Descriptions Act…? 😉

Not to take anything away from Liverpool though. I’d heard it was 3-0 at half time, and only flicked the tv on an hour or so later to find out what the final score had been. Major double take in our house when we saw it was 3-3 and extra time being played – even Julie sat spellbound, and she hates football!

Must say that Milan’s penalties were poor. I’ve taken – and scored! – better ones.

Bit of a dilemma on the part of UEFA then.
I would love to see both teams in it actually. Just to show Everton what they’re dealing with.

Thats not fair on Everton, they have had a damn good season and deserve to be where they are. Liverpool as holders should definitly also be in it.
