hampden98, you can have a go at landing without any experience, doesn’t mean you can pull it off successfully though. The ‘landing’ can turn into a ‘crash’ so easily.

Yes, quite agree. I just get annoyed when the press hail people in these situations as heroes or whatever.
Not trying to deride the person who did it.

I think the outcome would have been very different if the A/C had been a twin, or even a Private jet.He was more than lucky.

Is this man a hero or anything special?
While I don’t envy him and wouldn’t fancy having to do that myself what choice do you have?
Land or crash. I think most people would have a go at `Land` and try to save themselves.
Pretty scary though.

I read later that the ‘eye witness’ made up the prop strike and although far from a greaser, it was a good landing. Good enough for the aircraft to be flown out to Doncaster yesterday.

According to “Look North” News, I understand an RAF helo helped to guide him in, whatever, all’s well that ends well.

Tragic news about the pilot. That is ever so sad to what was a really good outcome at first. 🙁

Well done indeed, sadly the pilot has died.

Useful link, Charlie.

However, beware the statement given in the warnings: “… As long as the plane is in the air, you can take all the time you need to work out the rest.” Really??

Fuel is a finite resource – especially when constrained by the capacity of the on-board fuel tanks.

Not a bad landing for a first-ever attempt, though – well done that man!

Well done, indeed! Clearly non-aviators should all carry a copy of this http://www.wikihow.com/Land-an-Airplane-in-an-Emergency when flying!

I’d love to hear the r/t recording

Well done indeed, both to the ‘pilot’ and the instructors who did the remote instruction.

Sounds like a new prop and a shock load test called for – but it could have been so much worse.

The news gets more and more like Viz every day.

“He said there were cheers in the airport control room as the plane landed safely on its fourth attempt.”

Followed by….

‘Heard crashing’

🙂
