This is the Halifax panel project I have been working on over the past 2 to 3 years. I wonder what it would fetch? No it is not for sale just curious..

Peter,
Yes, if all goes to plan we are going to call it the Dutch Bomber Command Cockpit Collection or something similar.
And would you believe it that another friend of mine is building his full size Stirling replica cockpit made of wood in the museum I work for as a volunteer.
Although made of wood, it looks stunning and uses original instruments and fittings he can find. It used to be about six feet long when still in his parents attic. In May of this year it was dismantled and brought over to the museum where he is extending it and it measures now about 18 feet and includes the flight engineeer and wireless operators position. Until the UK’s Stirling project starts construction of their cockpit, this is the nearest thing to see a Stirling cockpit from close guarters. So cockpits from the RAF trio of heavies can be found in Holland, not bad eh.
Back to topic, and I’m off to New Castle this afternoon. Now you make sure that a lot of instrument panels piccies are posted in this thread when I get back on sunday. 😀
Cheers

Instrument Panels
I have a few panels in my collection but nothing as old or as classic as the Lancaster or Halifax. Enclosed is a picture of a Percival Pembroke instrument panel I have. I also have a Sea Fury, Blackburn Beverley and Vickers Varsity instrument panels which I will try to take pictures of and submit.

Hi Peter,
No the frame was just made up from readily available aluminium angles and bolts. Very simple but effective.
Here are some piccies of my panels.
Oh, and before I forget, we (a friend of mine who is building his own Lancaster cockpit section and myself) have found a workspace where both cockpits will be constructed and put on display.
Cheers

Elliot
the labels are easily made. I had them done at a local trophy shop and they are lamacoid(plastic) labels. All up it cost around 200 GBP.
Bruce your right I have almost 1000 gbp invested into it so it should be worth considerably more….?
Yes – but I was looking at it from the point of view of making one. If I were to put a hali panel together it would cost around £1500.
The ebay one was apparently paid for too by the looks of things but it was grossly over valued as were many items in that sale. There is another replica Lanc panel on ebay as we speak (not as nice as the last one though) – I will be very interested to see what it goes for!

Stunning 682al absolutely stunning!
Cees that is quite a setup that your panel is mounted too. Was it something you just hammered together or did you make a drawing?
By: 682al - 16th December 2004 at 10:59
Here’s the best one in our collection. The panel, column, wheel and throttles are all original, just not necessarily from the same Lancaster!
We also have original panels from a Spitfire, Dakota, Rapide, Sea Hawk, Shackleton I and a few others, including the main panel from Saro Princess G-ALUN.

Other Panels out there?
Great Panel Peter, well done on your excellent creation.
Just wondered if any other members out there have instrument panels which they could send photo’s of. Always pleasing to see and can act as a reference point for others! Any more out there…….?

Of course you didnt do it for the value anyway.
Elliott, I think you are way off – look at what the Lancaster panels fetched earlier in the year. If a complete, non authentic Lanc panel is worth upwards of £10K, then Peters Halifax panel has to be similar. Personally, I think that Lanc stuff was vastly overvalued, but who am I?
At the end of the day, these things are worth what someone is prepared to pay on the day.

I wonder how hard one of these would be to have made using card??
Well if you fold your own, and get ‘slot b’ right in position for ‘tab a’ not too much! 😀 😀
Seriously though a very interesting job. Well done!

Hi Peter
I would say around £1500, but doesn’t seem enough really – nice seeing the lights working!! Very well done.
One question – any chance of a close up of the labels? They look very nice and can be a real challenge 🙂

Cees.
Quit showing off…. 😉

Depends on how fast you want them. If you are patient and look around here and there, some very nice items can be found at reasonable prices.
If you want them yesterday, prepare to pay for them.
Cheers

I wonder what it would fetch?
Answer: Priceless.
Question: how much do the instruments go for these days?
By: HP57 - 14th December 2004 at 16:34
Yes it is… the culmination of alot of searching for parts etc. I just wish I had more parts for it like throttle box and control wheel….
Something like this Peter?
The control column has now been finished thanks to information supplied by 682AL regarding the horizontal tube. The bearings and endfittings are original and came from a UK crash.
