Wellington crash LP657 1945 location sort?

I am about to move to Lincolnshire and believe that Wellington LP657 may have crashed close to where we will be living. There seems to be some confusion as to the exact impact location due to the reference given. There are some references to it here http://www.bcar.org.uk/1945-49-incident-logs
and here http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/showthread.php?14208-Sgt-Air-Gunner-Derek-
Can anyone fill in more information, have any parts ever been recovered in the intervening years? Is anyone able to show a map with the position marked?
Many thanks………..Martin

Martin, I suggest asking, as well, on the RAF Commands Forum. There are some amazing experts there that don’t frequent this forum. I don’t see that board as being competition vs this forum — each forum is helpful in its own unique ways. Good luck!

Try and contact the Lincolnshire Aircraft Recovery Group via the BAAC website ; http://www.aviationarchaeology.org.uk/index .
The group have a superb display of recovered items in the hangar at East Kirkby but not sure if they have ever investigated LP657 ?

Jobson’s Bridge is a footbridge over the drainage channel, marked on the OS map on the link to Bing Maps.

I know the area well as we are moving very close to there, Vernatt`s drain is one of the large controlled land drainage `rivers`, is the exact spot marked anywhere? If not i will try and source a local historical society and see if they have further information………….Martin

The BCARS website has Jobson’s Bridge:

http://www.bcar.org.uk/1945-49-incident-logs

A quick perusal onloine brings up a Jobson’s Bridge, Mill Green, Pinchbeck. The OS Map on Bing maps has a Jobson’s Bridge just to the west of Spalding on the feature called ‘Vernatt’s Drain’ that runs WSW-ENE:

According to my Air-Britain’s LA100-LZ999 file, it: “Flew into ground on night navex, Johnsons Bridge, Lincs., 3.9.45” while serving with 26 OTU.
