Wellington Parts – Shropshire

I’m not sure that ITV have a “watch again” – if they have, find the local 6pm news bulletin.

Central ITV are at this moment reporting that Wellington geodetic sections have been found. The trailer showed one section being used as a fence in a field. Reporter Keith Wilkinson “in rural Shopshire” interviewed the farmer who is an aviation buff. Among other aviation bits and bobs he has in his barn was a sleeve valved radial engine, as used on the Wellington type.

Does anyone have further input?

Best regards,

Aerial

Wellington bits

I was at the said farm only yesterday and have, in fact, just struck a deal to buy the Hercules engine.
The engine, however, is not from a Wellington, nor is it an ex-crash-site example but a discard from CFS at Coventry, with whom Richard parr is associated.
It is of the type fitted to a Bristol Freighter and is missing all ancillaries and supercharger but otherwise in reasonable condition.
The geodetic sections are in the same shed and comprise some curved panels with, in one case, a bit of skinning (or possibly a shrivelled acetate window) so nothing to be getting yourselves too excited about.
The Javelin radome and assorted canopies are there too along with some parts owned by a local museum. It was not Rich Parr I spoke to but the chap who actually owns the parts and the shed. He is a business associate of Richard.

I watched said report – the “finder” was Richard Parr of Retro Aviation (see current FlyPast page 42/43).

I got the impression there were three Wellington panels – certainly two – being used as fencing but was unsure whether they were fuselage sides or wing upper/lower surfaces. I would guess they were each about 8 – 10 ft. long x 3 ft. high.

The other items “found” in the (un-named farmer’s) barn were a Javelin nose cone “been used as a child’s play-teepee”, a Javelin canopy section, several Miles Master canopy sections and a Hercules engine.

The farm location was said to be “just down the road from RAF Shawbury”.

Roger Smith.

PS will this add fuel to the calls aired in a previous thread to assemble a third Wimpey from the surviving bits spread around the country??

Assuming these are the same ones, this has been known about for many years. I think it was somewhere north of Shrewsbury. I was under the impression that they had been recovered for preservation.
