A quick query I hope. I’ve been working on a Wellington picture
And I was wondering: where did the spent .303 casings go? Were they ejected, and if so where from on the airframe?

Ah, FN5. That’s brilliant thank you. They go down the plughole! One could imagine that getting clogged … Anyway that answers the query. I need to depict some spent cases.

It depends which turret you are depicting.
From the AP for the FN20 (4 x .303″):-
15. The four Browning guns are mounted on two similar, but handed, gun cradles, which are pivoted on bearings in the inner and outer side frames. The guns are secured to the cradles by front and rear attachments, the rear attachment providing horizontal and vertical adjustment for gun alignment. Empty cartridge cases and belt links are ejected through slots in the base of each gun cradle into the chutes attached to the turret frame.

If it has the FN5A turret with 2 x .303, presumably it was collected as per the nose turret?

Aren’t there chutes which exit below the guns to tumble the brass out behind the aircraft?

Well that is what I was hoping someone could tell me. I know there are on a Lancaster, they are very obvious, but I haven’t seen them on the Wimpy. Does anyone know for sure?
