Wellington waist gun pictures

Help please.

Does anyone have any good internal shots of the single Browning .303 waist gun mounts in Vickers Wellingtons? I’ve asked RAFM Hendon but drew a blank.

I’m pretty sure these unpowered gun positions were a Vickers product, not anything by Fraser Nash.

I do have some poor quality/vague pics from books, but am after something a bit more clear and accurate.

If anyone can help I’d be very grateful. It’s for a modelling project in memory of my dad – who served with 40 Sqn (Wellingtons).

Once again I’d be very grateful if anyone can help.

Thanks for nice shot turretboy.

Slightly off topic but yep that’s definitely a Hudson, looking forward. Some Coastal Command Huds did have extra waist VGOs, as well as a mid upper turret and the ventral VGO position.

Still keen to see the Wellington Browning mount, (which was quite a complex arrangement) but looks like I’m drawing a blank.

Cheers.

Think Hornchurch has it right;

while the bracket for the MG isnt there those strange ( to me anyway ) clip things above the window are there, as is the bracing on the panel underneath the window beside the MG position.

I found this….it’s not a Browning, but a Vicker’s K gun and I’m not sure of the aircraft type.

A Sunderland?

`

Ain’t a Sunderland OR Liberator

For all the world it’s “screaming” Lockheed Hudson to me….. 😎

Check the Pilot’s ‘framing’ & the waist Gunners proximity to the cockpit;)

Biggest giveaway, is the shape of those windows he’s peering thru.

(This particular a/c may not have a mid-upper, just a possibility, but I’m still 100% convinced it’s a Lockheed Hudson)

Royal Canadian Airforce – Wireless Operators shoulder flash

Roomy airframe. Sunderlands had circular windows. How about a Liberator? [some marks were not equipped with the larger waist gunner hatch]
