Werknummer 2888

I received another piece of Luftwaffe metal from Russia yesterday and I have a question on werknummers

It is scratched and stamped with 2888 plus L for Links.

It is painted in RLM76.

Were werknummer sequential within each aircraft designation ?

Does it then follow that an aircraft with 2888 must only be from a production aircraft of which there were > 2888 manufactured ?

This would then limit this part to being from the set of 109,190,110,52,111,88,87 and Arado 96 ? Then further limited by use of RLM 76 ?

The aluminium is also manufacturer marked 33551

Thanks to all.

I have been cross checking the Ju87,Ju88 and Ju188 production lists and werknummers and can see that there is no overlap and that the numbers were assigned in batches – thank you.

Werknummers were issued in batches but are not indicators of numbers of any particular type built. Me 262s for example had 6 figure werknummers but production didn’t run to 100000!
