Hi,
Can I draw on this forum’s expertise to help a friend identify the planes in his photos from West Malling 1984.

Thanks in advance,

Now you mention it, the lead Spit’s nose doesn’t seem to be any shorter than MH434’s on the right of it. Could well be ‘238, but I don’t recall seeing it in that photo. Doesn’t mean it’s not, of course…

The Spitfire 4-ship comprises NH749, G-FIRE, MH434 and a second Merlin-engined aircraft. I think it could be AR213 – I certainly remember seeing a photo in one of Jeremy Flack’s books (which I’m sure was taken at the same event) with these four lined up.
Stands a chance. My log only lists two others, AB910 (not much chance of it being her) and NH238.
Vulcan was XL426; P40 is N94466 (the Fiat behind it is G-BBII); BBMF are PA474, AB910 and PZ865; Wildcat; Bearcat NX700H; Sea Fury WG655; B-17 Sally B G-BEDF (who else).

The Mk14 in the first photo, I saw at Camarillo last week looking very good, but still undergoing restoration. It wasn’t in the flying display. I can post a current picture if you’re interested.
The Mk.XIV DID fly again after an engine overhaul recently. However, it’s grounded for the time being while a leak (hydraulic or pneumatic?) is fixed.
