Perhaps not so big, exciting and commercial as on your side of la Manche, but out in western France we do have a few airshows and vintage fly-ins and, as those participating don’t tend to be seen out of the area, let alone the country, it might interest some to see a few images. Hitherto I’ve refrained from posting any because the rest of you seem to put up images so professional as to put ‘point and clickers’ such as me to shame. So if you’ll accept rarity as a compromise for lack of quality, here are some taken in the course of this summer.

Great pictures, I regularly travel to La Rochelle 5-8 times a year and would like to take in some airshows next year around this region and also Potiers, Tours, Cognac areas etc. Can you recommend any good shows for next year?

Thank you all for your kind remarks. If winter proves to be long, cold and miserable, I may yet trawl through my archive of western France airshow photographs and post a few more. If not, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for good weather in 2011 and interesting visitors to my local airshows and fly-ins. If so, then I’ll endeavour to oblige next year!

Fantastique Avion Ancien! Please post any more that you have. I have never seen the Caudron biplane before or knew there were two Flamants flying.
Lovely and thanks for putting them up.

AA – I wish you a happy Winter looking back over the aviation highlights of this year and anticipating what we might all be looking forward to next year. Might you take a trip over here during the year?

Just a quick message from the drizzly, dull west of France. They’ll be nothing happening here – aeronautically speaking – until spring 2011, so that’s my lot for the time being. Hopefully I might have some things to interest some people next year!

Do you know whether factory drawings for the Nord/Me-108 exist?
Sorry. I don’t know. I suspect if the Musée de l’Air at le Bourget doesn’t know, no-one will! But the photo was of a Nord 1101 Noralpha – which started its life as the Me-208. The French version of the Bf-108 was the Nord 1000/1/2 Pingouin. They’re rather thinner on the ground in France nowadays.

Very nice. Great to know there is still a Magister display team going. Only one thing spoiled that set of photoos, you included the flying village-aka the A-380

Nord/Me 108
Wow. Amazing airplane. That’s quite a bit of dihedral on the wings.

Great Photos
Thanks for posting them.
Interesting airplanes … like French automobiles, French airplanes appear to adhere to a different styling school.
The Storch with a round engine was “different” too.
Thanks.

Terrific pictures – all, AA – full of atmosphere……And those Magisters remind me of the old Patrouille de France displays several years back.

Lovely selection of shots of refreshingly different types. Have to say i have a real soft spot for Royal Navy marked Chipmunks. 🙂

Aaaah… Les 4 Magist(air)es… great shot… and Helene Boiucher’s Caudron Rafale looks like it came out of a 30-ties bande dessinée – I’m sure it’s somewhere there. Looks great!
