A WestJet Airlines plane skidded off a runway at Ottawa Airport when it came in to land late on Sunday night but none of the 94 people on board were hurt, Canada’s second biggest airline said on Monday.
Flight 846 from Calgary to Ottawa, Canada’s capital, “exited beyond the runway” after it touched down at around 11 p.m. EST (0400 GMT) and came to rest in snow in open space at the end of the tarmac, WestJet spokesman Richard Bartrem said.
Bartrem said WestJet didn’t yet have an explanation for the incident but that it was working with Canada’s Transportation Safety Board, which had launched an investigation.
Media reports suggested that the area at the airport had been very icy. The plane was carrying 88 passengers and six crew.
