It may interest any Helicopter fans out there that the Yorkshire Helicopter Preservation Group’s Westland Whirlwind XP345’s 11 year restoration is coming to an end. The formal unveiling will be on Saturday 26th September 2009 at Aeroventure (South Yorkshire Air Museum, Doncaster). Unlike most (maybe all?) preserved Whirlwinds, she’ll be in the support Helicopter role, with green/grey camouflage, and with the United Nations band around the fuselage, as she was when retired.
For more information on XP345 and the other Helicopters in the YHPG, visit the website here http://www.helicopter-preservation-yhpg.org.uk/

It’s always good to see helicopters geting some recognition.
Especially the S-55/H-19/Whirlwind….arguably the first practical transport helicopter.
Well done!

Thanks for the link, though I’m not a huge rotary fan it looks like Yorkshire Helicopter Preservation Group do fantastic work on restoring them, rather than some collections that seem to have helicopters because they are available and conveniently sized.
Will be great to see the Whrlwind preserved in those colours with the Scorpion on the nose panel.
Most HAR.10s seem to be preserved in SAR yellow or Training red & white but there are some in the camo dark green & grey, including Odihams example.
