I bought a WW2 pilot’s logbook at a militaria dealer this morning named to John Leslie Jones who received his training and wings in South Africa under the SAAF/RAF Joint Air Training Scheme. He spent most of the rest of the war as a transport pilot on Dakotas and Expeditors with the SEAAC Comm Sqn flying senior officers and VIPs.
Of interest was a passenger, baggage and load sheet tucked in the back of the logbook for a flight of Westminster Airways Anson C Mk 19 G-AHYO from Croydon to Johannesburg, South Africa departing on 25 October 1946. He is listed as the Captain of the aircraft with one crew member and seven passengers. This aircraft was damaged beyond repair at Lubishi, Northern Rhodesia on 31 October 1946, luckily without fatalities.
Strangely most information I have on Westminster Airways makes no mention of any Ansons being in their fleet.
Would anyone have more information on this crash and perhaps John Leslie Jones himself?
