Wet and Wild in Jersey 2005

The weather cleared just in time for the air-show to start, but it did stop quite a few aircraft from reaching the island, the BBMF, Team Honda, RNHF Sea Fury and the MoM to name a few. The Belgian Fouga Magister didn’t come across due to insurance problems and the MC-130P Combat Shadow developed a technical problem on it’s way to the show, and didn’t land afterwards opting to carry on the UK instead.

Apart from these few hitches the show went ahead on time and finished with the Red Sparrows, just as the weather clamped in again.

I chose to stay close to the airport to watch the comings and goings, rather than going down to St Aubins bay to watch the show. It also meant that standing on the balcony at the Aeroclub if it rained it was just a short dash into the bar to keep dry, the other plus was that food and drink was readily available.

The downside was that I didn’t hear any of dear old Melv’s commentary.

Sorry for the relatively boring shots, mainly of take offs and landings.

The 748BJ wasn’t in the show, I’ve included it because it’s registration caused many a smile among the gathered audience !!!;)

Coert,

It was good to catch up with you and great to see you all again.

It was a good display too.

If you ever need a co-pilot . . .

You do realise that I will have to take her out for a meal now and talk to her, I won’t have the static display as an excuse.

Thank you Melv…………………….NOT

And if she reads this you might be single by then and out in the fleshpots of St Helier trying to pull a new one!

It can’t be 😮 I’ve promised the present Mrs EN830 a Red Sparrows flypast for our 15th anniversary on the 14th

I’d start grovelling now if I were you!

That was a show that was.

We got so unlucky/lucky with the weather. Unlucky in that it was horrible all around us and people couldn’t get in and lucky that at 7am on Thursday morning when I went into the BBC for an interview there was no way on earth were were getting a show. At 9am they just about managed to get the helicopters from the airport to People’s Park and the rain held off until right at the end and we lost a bit of the Red Arrows. This was doubly unfortunate as they had to hold on take off as a plane made a diversion into Jersey. Five minutes after they scrubbed the sky was clear again but we managed to get most of the show and we got some good flying.

Next year’s show is September 7!
