No Gary, I think your right, a “Slight” manipulation with one of many cheap programs, ie Photoshop/ Pro, is O.K. but the ones who spend £800, or more on a professional program, need to be having to make a living out of photography, or entering competitions, with the sole object of winning, whatever the cost.If you take your time, in framing, and getting the shot right in the first place, correct exposure etc, etc, do you realy NEED a post photo method to manipulate your photo?.

I’m not sure that anyone has expressed aversion. I think for me it comes down to whether the camera is the prime tool in the process of photography or the computer.
Is the camera simply the device used to enable photographs to be constructed on the computer or is the camera used to record the image as accurately as possible, allowing for final honing on the computer?
I suppose the answer will be “it depends”. As in an earlier post when does photoshopping become extreme? Or does it?

I agree 100% .To me the hunt of taking the picture is much more fun and satisfying than all the computer post processing work but i daresay to others that is he opposite way round.

I do not understand the aversion to post editing. Its like giving Da Vinci a time limit on The Last Supper. I am going to the Mach Loop next week and I will be shooting RAW. You dont get a second chance to change settings in that situation.

[QUOTE=TonyT;2097353]I was taught to focus on the eye, that is the spot that needs to be in focus etc…. that reprocessed picture of the pigeon / dove has been pushed to far in my opinion and is overly harsh Bruggen..

Hi Tony, I was just trying explain how to alter the pic so that it looks white not win a competion:D If I can comment on yours, the first one, I would look to get two eyes in that pic and you have cliipped the tip of it’s beak off, and the second one looks like a two headed Parrot. We all look at pictures in a differant way.
The thing is you can find something that you would have done differant with nearly any picture.

That does makes sense as with aircraft and cars etc, you need to leave an area for it to appear to move into, both of mine they are looking at you though, your sheep one the cut off legs distract the eye from the main picture In my eyes, hence why I would crop it.

Bruggen…

Apology, looking At the image you processed it looked harsh on my work PC, BUT on my IPad it appears fine. Weird, will check work PC settings.

Axel don’t be afraid to crop, your sheep I would crop in close and loose the legs so you have a close up of the Head, shoulders and back. I only learnt from people telling me what to change etc, so I hope you take it as constructive critique 😀

A couple of mine I took, I hope you don’t mind me posting them, most have seen them before, but shows what cropping tight can do as an example. Though we do all have our own styles, I as you are still learning as well, it’s what makes it fun 🙂 🙂

I’ll use any means possible, in camera or post-processing to get the image I want. I take Nikon raw files and have sometimes adjusted them by the maximum of three stops if necessary. That’s what digital is all about.

The problem i have with this is that you soon start to rely on the post processing to get the image you want and not necessarily the skill of taking the photo. It’s ok if it is the difference between getting an image or not but i really don’t like that happening too much–camera never lies but it does tell massive porkies.

Thanks for those thoughts chaps and I am encouraged that the emphasis is on achieving the end result in the camera.
And of course Trump is quite right that much post camera work could be and was done in the dark room. It’s all so accessible and easy in the digital age.

not a problem however i do like my photos to look as close to what i could see through the view finder

Oh I am pleased and I will certainly rest easier knowing that. The fact is that if digital manipulation is done well then who’s to know?
Surely it’s the final image that matters not how it is arrived at?
