Sunny day today so the opportunity was taken to expose the Avons of Canberra PR.3, WF922.
Reason was to check on state of internals, connectors, engine cover panels, etc, but generally these were all in good state. Some vigorous rubbing down, re-greasing and repainting of a few couplings and connections as well as bits of the panel internals ensured the kit was ready for another winter. WF922 has been sitting outside for just over 20 years at MAM, and several or so years before that at Marshalls of Cambridge. Not in bad condition is it? Shows what can be acheived with motivated TLC on a regular basis – little and often is the way.
Anyway, it’s not that often you get a chance to see a naked Avon mounted in a Canberra so for all you “sooties” out there, here you are!

I had a walk around her yesterday and she is looking in fine fettle.
The wash down and T-cut of the airframe Malc and Gordie undertook during the week has done wonders for an already immaculate airframe.
Id never seen her with her cowl panels of before and was amazed at what good nick she is in around that area. Helped by some hard graft and attention to detail. Seems a shame to pop them back on the airframe hiding everything once more.

Anyone not knowing you would think we were looking at an operational canberra! A tribute to Malcolm’s love and attention to detail on this aircraft. Thanks for sharing the photo’s Les!
