If it is indeed a DH.86, presumably it is G-ACZP (unless it is a Rapide – it’s so much out of focus, at that point of the image, that I couldn’t say how many engines it has).

I remember as a youngster watching 3 Lancasters comming in to land at Yeadon (Now Leeds and Bradford airport) Think that would be mid 50’s to early 60’s not too sure as i was born in 1949 and remember being frightened by the noise they made Landing. Unless it was just 1 doing ccts and bumps lol

As others have said what a fantastic photo. I can only imagine what the little lad seen bottom left is thinking as he’s running and glancing over his shoulder.

For me its also interesting to see a photo of RNAS Anthorn, as photos of the former Royal Navy receipt and dispatch unit are hard to find.
And judging by the three hangars seen in the background the flight of the Lancasters is along the line of a runway, in the direction of one of the arrows i’ve marked on the colour image.

Bombgone – interesting point -I do wonder if the level of interest did deminish greatly after the war. My father recalls seeing a Lancaster/Lincoln at a Hooton Park display including shutting down multiple engines as part of the display and it certainly stuck with him.

WOW! Great pic. 12 Merlins, bet that made the ground shake a bit. Shame though as in 1954 no one was really interested then, not like the interest today. Luckily someone saved the day having the idea of keeping just one Lancaster flying for old times sake. BBMF. Brilliant thanks for posting.
